You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailThe City of Oxford is seeking to establish an eligibility list for the position of fulltime Police Officer. This is a Classified position. Pay for lateral entry applicants will be based on years of fulltime police service with another agency up to 100 of the pay range for applicants with three or more years of qualifying service.
The exam will be administered through the National Testing Network at A minimum score of 70 is required to move forward.
Additional credit for education military service or City of Oxford service credit will be applied to passing scores in accordance with Rule V of the Classified Service Procedures and Personnel Appeals Board Rules and Regulations. Proof of additional credit must be turned in to the Human Resources Manager at within ten 10 business days of completion of the written examination deadline.
A High school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelors degree in police science criminal justice psychology sociology or a related field and/or Certification as a Police Officer in the State of Ohio is preferred. Noncertified appointees must successfully complete certification requirements at the training academy assigned by the City of Oxford.
Must be 20.5 years of age prior to the date of examination.
Physical Fitness Test
The time and location for the physical fitness assessment will be provided after the application and written test phases have been completed. Police Division staff will administer the test and applicants will be required to sign a waiver to participate. This test will be pass/fail and does not contribute to the overall ranking list. Candidates who fail will be removed from the eligibility list.Link to physical fitness benchmarks.
Lateral entry candidates with at least three years of experience are not required to take the physical fitness test.
Interviews & Beyond
Candidates who are in the top five of the eligibility list will be interviewed and begin the background process. Additional interviews may be required. As candidates are excluded from the Eligibility List the next viable candidates may be interviewed. Candidates are removed from the eligibility list after one year.
Conditional Offer of Employment
The top five viable candidates on the Eligibility List will be recommended for hire. Once a conditional offer of employment is made candidates will continue in the background process which includes a polygraph examination psychological exam and medical exam.
