Job Description

Kindergarten Teacher Full Time 2.0 Positions


The Athabasca Denesuline Education Authority (ADEA) is a First Nation Education Authority serving the three Denesuline First Nations communities in northern Saskatchewan; Black Lake First Nation Hatchet Lake First Nation and Fond Du Lac First Nation. The Authority serves a total student population of approximately 1300 students. The Authority is working toward improved educational outcomes by utilizing the latest technology progressively piloting programs and integrating Denesuline culture into the classroom and school curriculum.

The ADEA is seeking competent confident motivated individuals to fill the two 2 positions of Kindergarten Teacher at Father Megret Elementary School (FMES) located in Hatchet Lake Saskatchewan. FMES is a PreK to Grade 5 facility with a student population of 200 and a strong group of professional and paraprofessional staff. In this role you will provide strong interpersonal skills commitment to learning and teaching in projectbased ways and provide an enthusiastic learning environment for students.

This competition is open to all applicants who reside in Canada; and preference will be given to First Nation or other Indigenous applicants who possess the qualifications knowledge and skills to meet the minimum suitability requirements as stated for the position.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Be aware of any allergies children may have.
  • Establish clear instructional direction to support a positive learning climate in the context of the Denesuline culture and language.
  • Offer children the opportunity to interact with peers and learn social skills learn school routines and build a strong foundation for further success in school.
  • Plan and organize materials ahead of time so when the children arrive the room and the Educators are ready to engage with children.
  • Provide positive ways for family engagement for learning success and provide a welcoming space that draws parents into the classroom.
  • Assess and document student learning daily.
  • Assist children with selfcare (i.e. dressing diapering feeding)
  • Cleaning protocols such as: all centre and tabletop materials that are reusable are to be cleaned following the covid protocols and all dishes and utensils are to be washed and sanitized before leaving school for the day.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be patient flexible observant and passionate.
  • Must have communication skills such as verbal and nonverbal active listening and empathy.
  • Must have a strong understanding of the following programs and assessments: Play and Exploration: Early Learning Program Guide; Early Years Evaluation (EYE); Prekindergarten Essentials: Effective Practices Policies and Guidelines; Saskatchewan Curriculum.
  • To follow the provincial Ministry of Education curricula and focus on holistic child development including the socialemotional physical intellectual and spiritual domains.
  • Actively engage with families children and community members to understand their backgrounds and experiences to support an equitable and inclusive school environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators colleagues central office schoolbased staff students parents and community.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students and other professional information

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or a recognized postsecondary Diploma as a Kindergarten Teacher
  • Experience in teaching First Nations students in a remote community would be an asset.
  • First Aid Certification would be an asset
  • Related training or experience in the field of education would be a definite asset.
