Job Description Summary

This requisition is by invitation only.

To introduce undergraduate level students to biomedical research by allowing them to work in a research environment under the guidance of an experienced investigator.

Guidelines: Students must be US citizens or permanent residents must show a strong interest in biosciences and biomedical research must have completed at least two full years of college course work or have been involved in significant research opportunities by the time the SURP internship begins must be currently enrolled full time and in good standing academically in a baccalaureate program at the time of application must be able to complete the ten full weeks of the program and must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. A cumulative GPA of 3.2 is preferred.

Job Description

The student will be required to participate in Responsibility Conduct of Research (RCR research ethics) training to attend mandatory biomedical science related lectures to participate in a hands on laboratory research project under the supervision of an experienced researcher to prepare a PowerPoint presentation and written paper on the research project and to give an oral presentation on the project the last week of the program in front of his peers and MUSC research staff. Students are required to be in the lab when not in RCR training or lectures. The student will learn some basic laboratory techniques how to maintain a lab notebook and how to collaborate with others on a research project.
