As aBehavior Specialist you will guide and assist with our schoolwide/classroom implementation of the positive behavior support program increasing positive student behaviors. This position always focuses first on proactive strategies when working with challenging behaviors and is immediately available to respond to crisis situations with the ability to deescalate students using CPI strategies behavioral contracts and interventions documented in students behavioral intervention plan if applicable. This position must be able to perform duties in a positive work mode and serve as a positive role model and influence for both clients and peers.
Responsibilities Include:
Reinforcing appropriate student behavior and redirects negative behaviors. Modeling these strategies for all staff.
Maintaining and updating records related to the development and implementation of student behavior strategies (SBS) or BIPs.
Collecting and charting behavioral data for the purpose of progress monitoring and supporting IEP teams in informing instruction.
Providing support to teachers and classroom staff in monitoring individual student behavior and class wide behavior management systems.
Implementing SBS or BIPs in classrooms and other instructional settings.
Applying principles of applied behavior analysis in classroom settings under the direction of a boardcertified behavior analyst to improve student outcomes and prevent/deescalate disruptive behaviors.
Conducting classroom or student observations using behavioral measurements needed for functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.
Assisting the classroom teacher with the preparation and implementation of learning activities providing student instruction supervising students and other school or classroom activities.
Following all universal precautions (e.g. bloodborne pathogens CPR First Aid etc. and all emergency procedures.
Identifying potential safety issues/hazards and reporting to the site safety committee and to your supervisor. This may include participating in the safety committee.
Attending and participating in team/clinical meetings supervision meetings allstaff meetings teacher meetings annual planning and action teams as directed.
Attending trainings designed to increase knowledge of current behavioral principles policies and procedures.
Assisting with the supervision of students during school activities (e.g. field trips bus areas classroom areas lunchroom play areas and in other assigned areas). Upon request providing supervision and support to students during transportation to and from school in districtoperated or schooloperated vehicles.
Traveling to/from multiple site locations during the school day to support classrooms when requested by the Program Director.
Performing other duties and projects as assigned.
