Library Technician
Temporary parttime 28 hr/wk)
Effective Immediately to June 27 2025
Under the general direction of the school Administrative Officer and/or Librarian the Library Technician performs a variety
of specialized library tasks.
Required Knowledge Abilities and Skills
1. Receive catalogue and process a wide variety of resources using various cataloguing programs in both English and French as appropriate.
2. Maintain collection on a daytoday basis i.e. carding shelving mending filing and general circulation procedures etc.
3. Maintain the card catalogue either in traditional or electronic format as appropriate.
4. Prepare and monitor overdue lists using a data base program.
5. Maintain library budget; prepare orders for resource and other materials; maintain budget records using Data Base program; follow district procedures for receipt of goods approval for payment and closure of purchase orders.
6. Assist with supervision of students in the school library resource centre including book exchanges and noonhour library duty as required.
7. Prepare displays gather information and materials to supplement the teacherlibrarians role in the school.
8. Maintain circulation lists of audiovisual equipment and provide general Audio Visual maintenance and assistance services.
9. Maintain picture pamphlet and vertical files.
10. Provide reference services to staff and students.
11. Direct and supervise parent volunteers clerical and other support staff and student assistant as required.
12. Perform other related duties as required.
Desirable Training and Experience
1. Grade 12 or equivalent plus a Library Technician Certificate and experience in all aspects of library technician work.
2. Must have knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system and Sears subject headings.
3. Experience in a school setting would be an asset.
4. Ability to use a computer to perform library tasks and procedures.
5. Must be a selfstarter and be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
6. Able to work with and relate to children and professional staff.
7. Able to maintain the integrity and confidentiality needed to work in a school setting.
8. Must have a working knowledge of the French Language.
9. Audiovisual training or experience would be an asset.
Rate of pay:
$29.37/hr as per Collective Agreement 440
