Job Description Summary
The Department of Communications a broadly trained Public Relations professor with strong social media and multi media skills who is committed to teaching and preparing student communicators for careers in the 21st century. This position is integral and complementary to departmental offerings in journalism broadcast journalism public affairs multi media television and radio. The department is a best practice leader in theory to practice conception and teaches public relations/public affairs with a journalism theory base. This is a fulltime tenure track position at the assistant professor level begins Fall 2016. The Department seeks a candidate with a strong background in public relations multi media social media and writing who can expand program curricula to actively engage students develop courses and offer professional contacts in public relations. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent Associated Press Style journalism writing and other skills associated with public relations including Web page building skills proficiency in multi media software and social media teaching skills. PRSA membership highly recommended. The ability to start and provide leadership for a PRSA chapter required. The successful candidate will have at a minimum degree an M.A. or M.F.A. in a communicationsrelated field. Ph.D.s are preferred. Previous university teaching experience desired. S/he should also have a commitment to teaching and a passion for scholarship in public relations. The candidate will hold the ability and willingness to teach undergraduate courses that include: Theories and Principles of Public Relations Public Relations Methods Writing for Public Relations Survey of Social Media Survey of Multi Media Case Studies in Public Relations Crisis Management and Senior Seminar. The successful candidate will work with faculty to continuously improve the curriculum in assigned course areas; maintain established office hours to provide oneonone or group support for students; start advise and facilitate activities of a La Verne PRSSA chapter; and find internship leads for students. Student advising and committee work is required of all faculty as well as maintaining a record of scholarship publication and professional activities to assure department and university visibility.
