Position Description Summary
The Department of Counseling and Educational Leadership at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a fulltime temporary position for Academic Yearin the Master of Science in School Counseling program beginning Fall 2025. This position requires teaching of online/distance education courses. In addition faculty will be responsible for maintaining scholarly activity and service for the program university profession and community. The School Counseling program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation CAEP and approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education PDE . Program completers meet the educational requirements for certification as a PK12 Elementary and Secondary School Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. The programs primary goal is to train future PK12 professional school counselors who can help schoolaged students navigate the complexities of school and life while promoting a successful educational experience through academic social/emotional and career development. An overview of the program can be found here: Based on the specific needs of the department at the time of appointment a successful applicant must be qualified to teach graduate level courses and/or supervise students in practicum and/or internship field experiences in School Counseling. Courses may include School Counseling specific courses and/or Educational Research and Writing. Duties
Teach core graduate courses in the School Counseling program to include online skills courses. Plan and deliver instruction through online modes of instruction including asynchronous and synchronous courses. Advise students regarding course planning and scheduling and help students prepare for a professional career. Engage in scholarly and professional activities along with attending workshops and meetings consistent with professional and scholarly development. Participate in the admissions process and work cooperatively with the office of admissions to ensure a highquality student body. Perform other university and department duties as expected of all faculty according to the collective bargaining agreement including holding weekly office hours scholarly activities serving on committees attending meetings and engaging in community service. The successful candidate will need to complete distance education training programs as made available by the University within two years of hire for the purpose of teaching in a multicampus environment with remote teaching needs.
