The Opportunity
SteelZero: Steel is a critical material for Roche due to its extensive use in capital goods such as manufacturing equipment and building infrastructure. Beyond steel is used in various products including pharmaceutical devices and diagnostic instruments to which the scope could be extended to. Given its significant sustainability impact Roche is launching the SteelZero initiative as part of the broader ScienceBased Targets Initiative (SBTI).
Responsibilities:
Overview of Steel Usage: Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the steel used within Roche including its supply chain volumes and carbon footprint.
Guidance on Steel Sourcing:
Provide recommendations on steel sourcing aligned with Roches sustainability strategies and comparable to the guidelines for plastics set in 2024.
Evaluate different steel production technologies and assess the sustainability practices of steel suppliers.
Analyze and recommend steel certifications such as Responsible Steel or Nexigen.
Collaboration and Reporting:
Work closely with crossfunctional teams including procurement engineering and sustainability departments.
Prepare detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and provide strategic guidance on steel sourcing and sustainability.
Who You Are
You are enrolled or have completed your Masters/MBAs studies at a university preferably in the field of Mechanical Engineering Material Science Environmental Science or a related field. within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months and getting to know the pharmaceutical industry.
Furthermore you are
Strong understanding of steel production processes and sustainability practices.
Experience in supply chain analysis and carbon footprint assessment.
Excellent analytical problemsolving and communication skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with crossfunctional teams.
Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
