The position is to drive the development of the electronics and readout system for the Neutron Emission Spectrometer being developed at TRIUMF in collaboration with General Fusion. The shortterm focus of the position is reading out about 200 Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPMs) providing excellent timing performances <100ps timing resolution) and rate capabilities (detection of 2 pulses separated by less than 50ns). In parallel the position is to support the implementation of a digital SiPM option in collaboration with Universite de Sherbrooke.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designs and tests the printed circuit boards (front end boards) holding the SiPMs and analog amplifiers.
- Implements the connections from the front end board to the digitizing electronics (Time to Digital Converter)
- Coordinates with TRIUMF data acquisition group for the readout of the Time to Digital Converter
- Implements the system electronics power connections cooling scheme and mechanical interfaces.
- Support the testing effort and the implementation of the whole system
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
No supervisory responsibilities are required. Informal supervision of undergraduate students is possible.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
The incumbent must have basic experience about photon and ionization radiation detectors. The incumbent must have experience in highspeed >MHz) analog electronics related to single photon detection. In more details:
- Demonstrated expertise in analog electronics design including experience in single photon detector readout electronics
- Demonstrated expertise in Printed Circuit Board design.
- Experience in laboratory test setups
- Some experience in the development of software system for instrument readout and control
- Some experience in embedded software
- Some experience in digital electronics system data acquisition
- Resourceful and show initiative in his/her work
- Eager to contribute to the project with a positive attitude. Good team player.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:
- A Bsc or equivalent Electrical Engineering
- At least two years professional experience
- Experience in working in a R&D environment would be an asset
Applicants must be legally eligible to work in CanadaCanadian Citizen Permanent Resident or have a valid work permit for at least one year after the job starts.
This is a 1year term position with a possibility of being extended.
