Job Description

The Student Care and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for promoting overall student wellbeing through Student Wellness Resources. This position provides administrative support outreach resource navigation referral services and basic needs support for undergraduate graduate and professional students through the APU CARES Program supporting students who are managing barriers to wellbeing that impact academic engagement and participation in campus life.

Required Education:

  • Bachelors degree required. Degree in counseling social work student affairs or a related field preferred.

Required Experience:

  • Three years of experience in higher education student development setting preferred.
  • Experience overseeing benevolence and resource coordination is desired.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions:

  • With a heart to care for students holistic wellness this position carries and assists a caseload of students connecting them to on and off campus resources for care; including academic psychological physical and spiritual support.
  • Serves as a member of the APU CARES Team in assigning coordinating and documenting student cases handled through the APU CARES program in the case management system Maxient. Supports the Chair of the Care Team in the administration evaluation and development of the APU CARES program.
  • Acts as a liaison and point of contact for students faculty staff and parents around student wellness and basic needs insecurity concerns.
  • Coordinates and disperses financial support to students in need of food housing and basic needs support through the use of the Valentine benevolence fund.
  • Facilitates and supports campus wellness promotion education and resource development for all students including historically marginalized populations including students of color international students students with disabilities students from lowincome backgrounds students with trauma experiences etc.
  • Creates and maintains strategic partnerships with APU campus offices (Residence Life Commuter Life Accessibility and Disability Resources Academic Success Center University Counseling Center Student Health Center Spiritual Life etc. involved in promoting student wellness and development.
  • Creates and maintains strategic partnerships with external community resources and organizations (e.g. Shepherds Pantry) involved in promoting wellness and development.
  • Represents Student Wellness Resources and the APU CARES Team through leadership and/or participation in designated campus committees and programs.
  • Organizes creative basic needs programming for student support (mobile food pantry food drives etc)
  • Other student wellnessrelated duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills including a strong command of grammar and writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint desirable.
  • Able to work independently and with little supervision be proactive and take initiative. Actively seeks out opportunities for growth and professional development.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity and commitment to the unique needs of students experiencing emotional interpersonal academic financial and spiritual concerns.
  • Knowledge of relevant ethical and legal parameters of professional practice.

Mental Demands:

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team as well as an independent contributor.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretionary skills in determining when to act independently and when to consult management prior to taking action.
  • Selfstarter with a positive attitude motivated and able to meet deadlines.
  • In agreement with the purpose and goals of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christianbased higher education for its students.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires repetitive motions and sitting at a computer keyboard.
  • Hearing and speaking on the telephone.
  • Able to lift bend grasp reach lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally.

Visual Demands:

  • Reading writing notes and computer monitor.

Environment:

  • Pleasant office comfortable temperatures.

Technologies:

  • Proficient in Google Apps. Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Experience using Maxient or similar student conduct and case management software preferred.

Compensation:

  • Grade 7: $19.49 to $22.41 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications experience and internal equity. In addition to compensation APU offers a competitive benefits package.
