As a member of the School of Medicine(SOM) Research Administration team the selected candidate for this positionwill be responsible for providing direct preaward administrative support toinvestigators conducting medical research in a variety of departments andcenters at VCU.
The selected candidate will assist researchersand study teams in the development and successful submission of proposals forresearch funding. This position providesan opportunity for candidates with preaward research administration experienceto grow those skills in a fastpaced diverse environment. The position willalso present opportunities for career growth in the field of researchadministration for those presenting a willingness and ability to workcollaboratively with a diverse group of faculty and staff across all School of Medicinedepartments.
This position is eligible for 100%remote work. Candidates living outside the Richmond metro region are encouragedto apply but may be required to come onsite on occasion (no more than twiceannually) for inservice training and professional development activities. Theselected candidate will also be eligible to receive a onetime sign on bonus.
General Duties:
PreAward Research Administration 80
Workunder the direction of your supervisor and SOM Office of ResearchAdministration leadership to provide preaward research administration supportspecific to the needs of SOM departments/centers and faculty directly with investigators on assigned proposal submissions to ensureproposals meet technical administrative and financial requirements deadlinesare met and all SOM Research Administration Standard Operating Procedures andestablished policies/requirements of both VCU and sponsoring agencies arefollowed.
Will be responsible for managing theproposal development process and establishing necessary timelines with theinvestigators to ensure deadlines are met for all submissions assigned.
Preaward duties could include:
Follow all SOMRA SOPs related to preaward submissions
Create a management plan and communicate clearly with the PrincipalInvestigators on submission requirements and assignments ensuring rolesresponsibilities and timelines are clear for each proposal assigned
Prepare nontechnical components of submissions seeking PI input where needed:budget budget narrative coordinating administrative requirements forsubrecipients preparing RAMSSPOT submissions completing sponsor forms etc.
Ensure conformance of each submission with sponsor requirements and VCU policy
Prepare cost share authorizations and advance index requests seekingdepartment approvals as needed
Facilitate completion of compliance and training requirements with the PI
Creation Formatting and Maintenanceof Other Support Documents 20
Maintain compliant Other Support andPrevious/Current/Pending Support documents for faculty participating in NIH andDepartment of Defense funded research
Create and format compliant OtherSupport and Previous/Current/Pending Support documents for faculty as assignedfor all sponsors (federal and nonfederal) in sponsorstipulated formats
Work with faculty asassigned to coordinate/facilitate entry and maintenance of Other Support datain SciENcv
Minimum Hiring Standards:
Research Administrator: Bachelorsdegree and prior relevant work experience in a financial compliance orresearch related field; 3 or more years prior research preaward researchadministration experience preferred.
Candidates with 5 or more years ofdirect preaward research administration experience may be considered forSenior Research Administrator slotting.
Must have skills or ability to acquirenew skills in the following areas: review of and adherence to sponsor proposalguidelines; budget development; ability to interpret and apply complexgovernment regulations and contractual terms; proactively ask questions andseek guidance when needed.
Must have excellent customer serviceskills written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work aspart of a team. Strong problem solving and time management skills are essentialincluding ability to adapt to frequent changes in work assignments prioritizeand manage competing priorities and deadlines.
Must be precise thoroughand reliable and perform daily activities with minimal supervision. Must beproficient in the use of computers with an ability to learn new systems and softwareapplications with ease. Proficiency in the use of Word Excel PowerPoint and Adoberequired. Ability to work in a diverse environment required.
Demonstratedexperience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalismand civility with a population of faculty staff and students from variousbackgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a faculty/staffmember at VCU.
Preferred Hiring Standards:
Bachelorsand/or Masters degree strongly possessing 35 years of direct preaward research experienceare preferred. Prior preaward research administration experience in anacademic medical center or other organization with significant NIH grantportfolio will be preferred.
