Job Description

THE POSITION

This position will remain open until filled

Washington County is now searching for a Director of Juvenile Services toleadthe department.The primary responsibilities of this role will be developing and implementing department goals andobjectivesrecommendingand administering policies and procedures and assigning and evaluating projects and programs.In partnership with the departments leadership team the Director will set department visionaligned with the Board of County Commissioners direction administerand delegate day to day operationsand ensure effective service deliverythat enhancescommunity safetyto the growing and diverse community that we serve.

The Opportunity
Under the direction of the Assistant County Administrator the Director of Juvenile Services plans directs and reviews the activities and operations of the Juvenile Department.Key responsibilities of the Departmentinclude assessment case management residential and custodial services for youth referred for delinquent acts research and evaluation programmingand conciliation services involving counseling and mediation for parents involved with the Domestic Relations Court. The role coordinates activities with other County departments as well as outside agencies and provides highlevel administrative support to the Assistant County Administrator.

As a leader of the department this positionwill help develop and administer the Juvenile Department budgetanticipatingfuture needs for staffing equipment and materials. The Director of Juvenile Servicesmaintainsa positive and supportive work environment for staff that thrives on teamwork communication diversity equity inclusion and belonging. They willrepresentthe department and County to residentsseekand respond to community member feedback and serve on various community boards commissions committees and professional groups.

  • Knowledgeable inOregonjuvenile domestic and youth welfare laws and codes juvenile and family treatment theory andmethodology program development and administration and applicable federal state and local lawscodesand regulations.

  • A champion of behavioral health who understands juvenile research and brain development and sees juvenile justice through a traumainformed lens.

  • Experienced in serving a rapidgrowth department and community particularly the challenges of recruiting andretainingquality staff.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for the Director of Juvenile Services is $163605.36 to $208753.44 and will depend on the qualifications of the successful candidates. Benefits offered to this position include the following:
