The Opportunity

The Department of Psychiatry at UF College of Medicine in Gainesville Florida is seeking an Assistant or Associate Professor in the Division of Addiction Medicine. The position is a 12 month fulltime 1.0 FTE) nontenured track faculty position. This position will provide outpatient and inpatient critical need services in our Addiction Medicine division at the Florida Recovery Center (FRC). In addition this position will play a key role in teaching students residents and promoting the missions of the division of Addiction at the University of Florida.

The UF Health Florida Recovery Center is Floridas premiere addiction treatment program. Our multidisciplinary treatments are supported by advanced research from stellar facilities such as the Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute of the University of Florida where we are uncovering the mechanisms of addiction and are developing new treatments. Our program combines the established principles of recovery and evidencebased addiction treatments with the knowledge and capabilities of a leading academic medical center. Calling upon the skills of boardcertified addiction medicine specialists as well as psychiatrists and licensed behavioral health counselors treatment encompasses the physical emotional and spiritual aspects of recovery followed by the wellestablished and proven 12step method.

The successful applicant for this position will report to the Vice Chair & Chief of the Addiction Medicine division.

The Department of Psychiatry

The UF Department of Psychiatry is a leader in innovative evidencebased treatment programs for a variety of mental health and substance use disorders. Treatment teams within UF Health Psychiatry specialize in dual diagnosis. They are experienced in managing treatment plans for multiple cooccurring disorders. Clinical faculty fellows and residents provide subspecialty care using transcranial magnetic stimulation parentchild interaction therapy cognitive behavioral therapy and specific treatments for obsessivecompulsive disorder and addiction.

We are nationally recognized for our research on addiction depression obsessivecompulsive disorder autism attention deficit hyperactivity disorder physicians and health professionals substance abuse Tourettes disorder basic and clinical psychopharmacology neuroimmunology geneenvironment interactions in abnormal repetitive movements dynamic functional magnetic resonance imaging and proteomics.

Minimum Requirements:

Applicants must have:

  • M.D. or D.O. degree.
  • Licensed in or eligible for licensure in the State of Florida.
  • 1 Board certified in Psychiatry AND board certified/board eligible in Addiction Medicine through ABAM/ASAM OR 2 board certified in another specialty AND board certified/board eligible in Addiction Medicine through ABAM/ASAM.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong candidates will be motivated physicians with a desire for a career in psychiatry with specialty board in addiction medicine within an academic setting
  • Interest and experience in evaluation and treatment of safety sensitive professionals
  • Possess prior clinical experience in a teaching hospital
  • Completed residency in psychiatry
  • Completed fellowship in Addiction Medicine
  • Ability to work in a teaching environment and collaborate with therapist
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong written communications skills
