Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University (ISU CVM) has an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Veterinary Field Services Unit in Ambulatory Medicine within the department of Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine (VDPAM).

The emphasis of this position will be dairy medicine although a primary bovine emphasis (focus on dairy cattle) with exposure to other food animal species is possible. This position will allow the individual to pursue board certification as a Dairy Diplomate with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) and/or a graduate degree (MS or PhD). The person in this position will gain production medicinebased clinical experience and may participate in applied research while working with clients of the ISU Veterinary Field Services unit ISU Food Animal and Camelid Hospital and the ISU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

The successful candidate will participate in the departments ambulatory care unit and assist in the instruction of veterinary students within the departments professional program while acquiring the experiences necessary to achieve board certification. The person in this position will also conduct some applied research. Responsibilities will include being oncall and providing emergency services. The candidate will also develop observational research studies of cases and/or case sequences to support the board certification process.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

DVM from an AVMA accredited veterinary college prior to start date

State of Iowa Veterinary License or eligibility for licensure in the State of Iowa

Valid U.S. drivers license

Preferred Qualifications:

Category II veterinary accreditation under the USDA

National Veterinary Accreditation Program or eligibility for accreditation by the USDA

Demonstrated focus on dairy animal medicine

Two or more years of bovine practice or related experience

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
