Job Description

The Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) is made up of every undergraduate student at the University of Nevada. ASUN provides a means for students to voice concerns and address issues at the university local state national and international levels.

Responsibilities

The duties of the Director of Event Programming are as follows:

  • The Director shall be appointed by the President with the consent of the Senate

  • The Director as the head of Department and shall have the direction authority and control over it

  • The Director may delegate any of the Directors functions or duties to any other officer of the Department

  • The Director shall prepare a budget breakdown for the Department for the anticipated major events of the year to be presented to the President

  • The Director shall recommend to the President of the Association appointments of students to the Department

  • The Director shall chair all meetings of the Department which must occur at least once per month with an agenda posted in accordance with Nevada Open Meeting Law

  • The Director shall be responsible to serve as or assign liaisons to university entities that pertain or may serve as stakeholders for ASUN Programming; including but not limited to the Alumni Association Nevada Athletics Center for Cultural Diversity New Student Initiatives The Wolfpack Welcome Committee and the Dean of Students

  • The Director shall research various items including national trends diversity initiatives and tradition building to guide the boards efforts to create allinclusive programs

  • If an executive appointment is reported unfavorably by the Senate Committee on Oversight or if an appointee is not passed by the Senate the Director shall present a new appointment to the Senate within the following two weeks of said committee or Senate meeting

  • The Director shall act as President if by reason of death resignation removal from office inability or failure to qualify there is no President Vice President Speaker of the Senate or Director of Clubs and Organizations to act as President

  • The Director is responsible for producing a nonbinding organizational calendar of the semester which includes all programming events planned for that semester at the first meeting of the corresponding semester

  • The Director is to have a report read or spoken into record at minimum every other Senate meeting

  • Responsible for attending all ASUN retreats and trainings as decided by the Director of Executive Outreach.

Required Qualifications

During my tenure in this appointed position I agree to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Candidate must be enrolled at the University of Nevada Reno

  • Maintain a 2.00 GPA and be enrolled in at least 7 undergraduate credits

  • Perform all duties and instructions outlined by the ASUN Governing Documents

  • Uphold the Nevada Student Code of Conduct

  • Meet all deadlines set forth

  • Attend all required meetings and training

  • Work scheduled hours

  • Properly complete and submit HR paperwork on time

  • Assist in the promotion of the mission of ASUN and Nevada

  • Behave in a manner that is ethical maintaining a high level of integrity

  • Other duties as called upon by my position

I understand if I do not adhere to the items outlined in this agreement or what is stated in the ASUN Governing Documents my position may be subject to disciplinary action by the ASUN Judicial Council and/or the University of Nevada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in ASUN as an officer

  • Prior extensive experience in planning coordinating or marketing events through course of study previous work experience or extracurriculars

  • Experience with budget management and financial planning through course of study previous work experience or extracurriculars

  • Previous management mentorship or leadership experience with peers

  • Creativity to conceptualize and execute event ideas appealing to a diverse student body

  • Strong organizational and managements skills for managing multiple events simultaneously coordinating logistics and meeting deadlines

  • Ability to articulate event plans help negotiate contracts and address concerns or feedback from participants

  • Knowledge of risk management principles and safety protocols to maintain compliance with university policies and mitigate potential risks during events

  • Familiarity with marketing strategies and willingness to collaborate to attract participants to events

  • Drive to prioritize inclusion and accessibility in event programming to ensure events reflect diverse perspectives cultures and interests in the planning process

  • Passion for student engagement and desire to enhance the overall student experience through engaging and memorable events

  • Flexibility and adaptability within role; ability to time manage and prioritize tasks

  • Willingness to mentor an intern during the fall and spring semesters

  • Commitment to advancing the foundational pillars of the Home Means Nevada Platform through:

  • Leading the planning and of traditionbased events by reviving past celebrations e.g. the Homecoming Parade) strengthening existing ones (e.g. Welcome Week Concert Wolf it Down Paint the N) and developing new traditions that reflect the evolving identity of the campus

  • Collaborating with the Office of the President and the Homecoming Parade Committee to successfully restore and expand the Homecoming Parade as a campuswide and communitycentered tradition

  • Coordinating collaborative programming by partnering with local organizations e.g. the Holland Project Artown to host budgetfriendly events and inviting campus entities like clubs and cultural groups to lead or cohost experiences

  • Promoting student involvement in programming by empowering clubs and organizations to take ownership in events

  • Implementing creative budgeting strategies that maximize student engagement while maintaining fiscal responsibility

  • Designing and executing a comprehensive Programmer training to occur no less than five weeks before the fall semester begins covering programming philosophy logistics budgeting and collaboration strategy
