Job Description

Wasauksing First Nation is now seeking applicants for the Summer Work Experience Program 2025.


Applications are now being accepted for the potential positions: Positions vary depending on funding.


Administration / Reception Support
Assist the administration staff with a variety of different tasks but not limited to:

  • Greeting Visitors & providing customer service assistance in person or over the phone.
  • Administrative tasks revolving around file management documentation printing photocopying & scanning.


Maintenance Workers

Assist with the Janitorial services to any Wasauksing First Nation buildings; duties include but are not limited to:

  • Washing of floors windows and other surfaces.
  • Emptying garbage cans
  • Ensuring general cleanliness of Wasauksing buildings.


Beach Patrol

Perform grounds maintenance of Wasauksing First Nation beaches including but not limited to:

  • Providing support to community members safety handouts sale of permits.
  • Ensuring visual standards grass cutting disposal of leaves garbage disposal.


Daycare Classroom Supports

Supporting the teachers with tending to childcare needs including but not limited to:

  • Providing a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Assisting in monitoring & implementation of activities snack preparation and behavior management.


Field Tech

Responsible for assisting the Lead Biologist with implementing a longterm terrestrial species at risk monitoring program including but not limited to.

  • Carry out safe handling of turtles and snakes (including venomous Massasauga Rattlesnake for the purpose of data collection and recording.
  • Assist with community engagement events turtle egg development from incubation to release.


Housing Maintenance Outdoor

Responsible for assisting maintenance of rental properties including but not limited to:

  • Repairing of housing units including minor carpentry repair.
  • Performing weekly seasonal maintenance i.e. grass trimming and pulling.


Home Support Outdoor

Responsible for providing outside minor maintenance duties to eligible community
members including but not limited to:

  • Perform seasonal maintenance i.e. grass trimming pulling piling wood.
  • Ensuring clients safety in their homes while maintaining the confidentiality of community members.


Home Support Indoor

Responsible for performing scheduled weekly/daily maintenance home support service to clients including but not limited to:

  • Light housekeeping services i.e. washing dishes sanitizing kitchen meal prep vacuuming/sweeping/washing floors
  • assist with community functions as required i.e. setting up chairs/tables cleaning up


Student Nurse

Responsible for working in collaboration with the Nursing Station team to ensure
comprehensive patient care. Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Provide holistic primary health care to First Nation Inuit and Mtis clients byfollowing our model of care which includes referring clients to other resources.
  • Work in a shared care model that offers a team approach to health care
    provided by physicians medical specialists NPs and allied health care
    professionals.


Land Based Health

Responsible for assisting the health team with landbased activities for the include but not limited to:

  • Assist with a variety of roles revolving around member involvement in Land
    based healing.
  • Aid in the scheduling planning and delivering landbased programing and activities.


Youth Worker

Collaborating with your team to organize and coordinate recreational awareness activitiesfor Wasauksing Youth; Including but not limited to:

  • Plan organize and participate in various recreational programs and youth camps.
  • Provide moral support and encouragement to youth.


To qualify for the Summer Work Experience Program 2025 an individual MUST meet the following criteria:

Students must be 15 and 30 years of age at the time of hiring;

Students must have been registered as fulltime students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a fulltime basis in the next academic year;

Be students in a secondary postsecondary vocational or technical program but not attending fulltime classes while participating in their placement;

Be legally entitled to work in Canada according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;

Must have banking info Sin number and Status card
