Assistant Professor (Continuing Track) Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry University of Delaware Newark Delaware

INTRODUCTION/POSITION: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a continuing track (CT) assistant professorlevel position in Chemistry and Biochemistry starting August 16 2025. This position offers a strong supportive setting for a teachingintensive role in the environment of a highly active research department that supports robust undergraduate and graduate educational programs. The successful candidate will have expertise in teaching introductory chemistry classes to chemistry and biochemistry majors and nonmajors including core concepts in introductory chemistry. Competence and/or experience teaching courses that support the departments analytical and/or inorganic curriculum will also be considered favorably. QUALIFICATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We are seeking exceptional candidates that have completed a doctoral or equivalent degree in chemistry or a related field prior to appointment and have significant teaching interest and experience. The successful candidate will have expertise in teaching introductorytointermediate chemistry classes to chemistry and biochemistry majors and nonmajors including core concepts in introductory chemistry. Competence and/or experience in teaching the above concepts as well as analytical and/or inorganic chemistry materials to upperlevel students will be viewed favorably. Postdoctoral experience with significant publications in research or education is desirable but not necessary. Demonstrable commitment to mentoring and promoting a diverse student population is also highly desirable. Primary responsibilities of this teachingintensive position include teaching introductorytointermediate level courses development of curriculum coordination of lectures with associated laboratory sections and administrative tasks. Faculty are also expected to contribute to departmental committees that support department functions and academic programs and to make contributions to departmental teaching and research workshops retreats seminars etc. The position may additionally involve College and University service as well as disciplinebased education research and advisement responsibilities.

DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY AT UD: The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Delaware is within the College of Arts and Sciences and serves as home for approximately 30 research faculty over 170 PhD candidates dozens of undergraduate researchers and approximately 200 undergraduate majors. The departments undergraduate teaching and training mission also supports several thousand nonchemistry majors each year.

Upon joining the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry the successful candidate will work among a dynamic faculty to deepen the Departments world class research and educational programs spanning a wide variety of areas in the allied chemical sciences and related scientific disciplines. Undergraduates have opportunities to participate in peermentoring programs for courses as well as in research experiences in laboratories while being mentored by graduate students and faculty. The University offers a highly interactive multidisciplinary scientific and educational environment with the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTAL) and support from UD Academic Technology Services (ATS). We also enjoy close relationships and opportunities for community engagement within the State of Delaware.

The College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Delaware offers exceptional educational experiences including integrated instruction research and public engagement.
