Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Casual Dish Crew Pots/Pans. TheCasual Dish Crew Pots/Pans is a parttime casual position with no benefits starting at $18.00/ Amhersts distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community and a topperforming dining program.
The Casual Dish Crew Pots/Pans supports the efforts of Amherst College Dining Services in providing the diverse campus community with excellent service and support in production of our menus. This position assists the culinary team by receiving washing and sanitizing all wares related to menu production according to industry standards for safety.
This position is responsible for ensuring that all wares used in menu production are presented in a clean sanitary and organized fashion while providing essential support to the efforts of the kitchen team. The position is also responsible for helping to maintain a clean and organized work area by actively engaging in general cleaning duties while managing floor care trash compost and recycling systems to college standards. Additionally the position will assist in a supportive service capacity within kitchen operations. They work to ensure the highest quality and consistency of performance while maintaining the required standards of sanitation at all times.
This position is a nonbenefited temporary casual role 4 consecutive days schedule supporting lunch and dinner services not to exceed 1004 work hours per calendar year.
During periods of peak service demands this position may be asked to assist with supporting special events outside of the Dining Hall. As our work is central to student life their needs occur at a variety of times throughout the day week and year and as such a flexible schedule with extended shift times is required. In addition the position is designated as providing essential services and should report to work or remain on duty even though the College is closed. This position supports a diverse workforce and participates in the Colleges efforts to create a respectful inclusive and welcoming work environment.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Providing sanitary wares through the proper use of a 4compartment sink se wash rinse sanitize and dry
Proper use and maintenance of a warewashing machine; use storage and disposal of required chemicals; and use of personal protection equipment to ensure safety in the workplace
Maintaining organized kitchen equipment storage areas to department standards: cleaning and sanitizing food contact surfaces equipment floors ceilings and walls
Maintain operational standards and operations according to Health Department regulations
Ensure all areas are maintained in an orderly clean and sanitary manner
Maintain accurate titration logs of chemicals used and temperatures per code requirements
Perform work in a safe and efficient manner; ensure operational organization before during and after service
Ensure that equipment used is correctly set for operations and in working order with all parts installed prior to use; tools used are properly cared for and stored
Communicate operational needs and concerns effectively and proactively regarding duties safety and department needs based on observations of operations
Maintain a commitment to the quality of our resources and work to prevent loss and eliminate waste
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Less than a year of related experience
Two years in a support role in a highvolume kitchen environment in lieu of minimum education and related experience
The individual has daily interaction with the campus community involving both verbal and written communication. This includes but is not limited to accepting the direction training and support provided by supervisors; communicating with customers regarding their needs suggestions and concerns; reporting operational issues concerns and needs through appropriate channels
This requires the ability to read and comprehend instructions short correspondence and memos; the ability to read product labels signs and warning labels specifically with the use of chemicals; write correspondence; and the ability to effectively present information in oneonone and small group situations with other employees of the organization
Ability to work in a fastpaced kitchen environment exposed to heat cold humidity odors food production and steam. The position works in a wet environment
This position stands and moves for the entire duration of their shift
Successful completion of preemployment physical and lift test
Preferred
High School Diploma or equivalent
Current ServSafe Food Handler Certification or be able to achieve within 6 months of employment
Allergen Awareness as required by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Entrylevel with the ability to function efficiently in a highvolume fastpaced environment
