Job Description

New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint however we may go slightly higher based on experience internal equity and market.

Job Summary

The Well K.E.P.T. Program is a summer youth employment opportunity offered through the Natural Resource Division of the Parks & Community Services Department. The program is designed to provide Bellevue teens with education job skills and career development training in the field of park resource management. Work focuses on parkland renovation and maintenance; projects may include agricultural maintenance forest enhancement wetland restoration and trail construction. The Well K.E.P.T. Program combines onthejob work experience environmental education and career development training to instill strong selfesteem good work habits and sound environmental ethics.

Bellevue Well K.E.P.T. is funded by the King Conservation Districts Member Jurisdiction Grant program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Removes noxious weeds from park forests
  • Builds and renovates hiking trails
  • Performs agricultural maintenance tasks
  • Implements various park improvement projects
  • Participates in educational and professional development workshops

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm and desire to work outdoors.
  • Must be a student enrolled in high school in fall 2025.
  • Must be between 14 and 18 years of age on 06/30/2025. Hiring preference will be given to applicants entering their sophomore junior or senior years.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively as a team member to accomplish a common goal.
  • Hiring preference will be given to residents of Bellevue Washington.
  • Interest in learning about ecology and park resource management activities preferred.
  • The position is intended to be a learning experience so no prior experience is required. Past Well K.E.P.T. trainees will be considered only if space is available.
  • As with all government employees candidates selected for hire must pass a criminal background check prior to hire date.

  • Work involves walking talking hearing using hands to handle feel or operate objects tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee may be required to push pull lift and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
  • Work may periodically require the employee to climb balance bend stoop kneel crouch and/or crawl.
  • Employee must be willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions.

Supplemental Information

This is a Seasonal position.Definition of aSeasonalEmployee:

  • Must be preapproved by Human Resources to ensure compliance with the legislation

  • Regularly scheduled to workup to 40 hours per week for which the customary annual employment is six months or less

  • Customary means that the nature of the position typically lasts for six months or fewer and that the period of employment begins at approximately the same time each year

  • NOTE: Will be considered fulltime and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12month measurement period (or 130 hours per month)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Some positions may require obtaining a commercial drivers license (CDL) licensures or additional certifications.
