Job Description

Purpose

The Court Services Assistant 1 and 2 performs customerservice court case preparation and processing and administrative functions tosupport the efficient operation of the Municipal Court.

Essential Functions

The essential functions performed depend upon the assignmentand job level.

Customer Service:

  • Provide case and policy/procedurerelated information to internal and external customers by phone mail email and inperson.
  • Review incoming court correspondence and disseminate information appropriately.
  • Check in defendants answer basic court questions and roster defendants for court appearances.
  • Provide customer service to the reception area during business hours ensuring timely responses to inquiries.

Court Case Preparation and Processing:

  • Prepare cases for court appearances.
  • Ensure accurate and timely caserelated data entry for the Courts Case Automated Tracking System (CATS).
  • Ensure data accuracy by updating case information and crossreferencing data from internal and external systems.
  • Update case files by attaching incoming documentation.
  • Verify and update personal information for defendants.

Administrative Support:

  • Support records retention efforts including storing and archiving hardcopy records maintaining files as outlined in the policies and procedures manual.
  • Assist with training staff on Court Services Section procedures.
  • Participate in staff meetings and staff development activities.

Conditions of Employment

The Court Services Assistant 1 and 2 must:

  • Pass a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS) background investigation and clearance check and maintain throughout employment.

Current Salary

COURT SERVICES ASSISTANT 1 (Pay Range 6GN):

The current starting salary is$45807 annually andthe resident incentive starting salary for City of Milwaukee residents is$47181annually.

COURT SERVICES ASSISTANT 2 (Pay Range 6IN):

The current starting salary is$48097 annually andthe resident incentive starting salary for City of Milwaukee residents is$49540annually.

Appointment will be made in accordance with the City ofMilwaukee Salary Ordinance.

THE SELECTION PROCESSwill be job related and willconsist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of education experienceand/or responses to supplemental questions; a written or performance test astructured interview or other assessment methods. The Department of EmployeeRelations reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates tostructured interviews and performance examinations. Structured interviews mayinclude written exercises. Selection process component weights will bedetermined by further analysis of the job.
