Job Description

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director for Academic Initiatives the Coordinator of the Living Learning Program is responsible for the oversight and supervision of the Living Learning Program within Housing and Residence Life at Boise State University. Responsibilities include but are not limited to fulfilling the overall program development and of the Living Learning Program mission and values supervising LLP student staff implementing the LLP programming model assisting LLP Faculty addressing and resolving student concerns arising in LLP communities providing support to Resident Directors (RDs) with Living Learning Communities in their areas and completing appropriate assessments to achieve identified outcomes. Additionally the Coordinator of the Living Learning Program will work in tandem with internal and campus partners to successfully recruit promote and achieve occupancy of Living Learning Communities. The Coordinator of the Living Learning Program also serves as a member of the Resident Director OnCall (RDOC) crisis response rotation.

Boise State University Housing and Residence Life is hiring for a Coordinator of the Living Learning Program! The Living Learning Program works to create educational opportunities for students to thrive and build connections within our residential communities. In this position that lives on campus the Coordinator utilizes studentcentered philosophies to fulfill the overall program development and of the Living Learning Program mission and values supervise LLP student staff and design educational outcomes to enhance student success. Level Scope:

Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of operational or technical employees. Sets and delegates daytoday tasks to achieve operational objectives. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the unit; however supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises unit operations to ensure compliance with departmental or campus policies procedures and defined internal controls. Problems typically involve a single area process or constituent group. Ensures accountability and stewardship of campus resources (operational financial and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

Essential Functions:

60 of the Time the Coordinator of the Living Learning Program must:

  • Supervise the 1318 LLP student staff including direct supervision of the 24 Living Learning Program Assistants and cosupervision of the 1114 Community Assistants (CAs).
  • Develops implements and maintains a model for recruitment selection and ongoing development training and evaluation for the LLP student staff team.
  • Oversees alongside the LLP student staff team the development and implementation of the LLP programming model and responsibilities accepting that ultimately the risk management and success of each event rests with this position. Programming includes but is not limited to weekly AllLLP events (typically on Tuesday evenings) LLC community opening welcoming and closing events.
  • Coordinate with the Resident Directors with LLCs in their areas keeping them (and supervisor/department leadership as applicable) informed of all noteworthy incidents occurring in their residence hall communities and providing followup with students as necessary.
  • Maintain budget oversight for areas of responsibility ensure funds are allocated appropriately and spending complies with HRL University and State policies/guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners to develop and coordinate the specific marketing and recruitment efforts for the LLP; create and coordinate onboarding sessions for LLP residents during Boise States summer orientation to ensure retention of LLP student applicants.
  • Coordinate with Housing Operations around LLC student applications selection room placements and occupancy.
  • Work alongside the Assistant Director of Academic Initiatives in advising and managing the FacultyinResidence and FacultyoutofResidence for the program including but not limited to faculty recruitment selection onboarding training course syllabus development and support.
  • Completes appropriate assessments to determine program effectiveness as well as assists the Assistant Director of Academic Initiatives in completing the LLP course registration and evaluation process.

35 of Time the Coordinator of the Living Learning Program must:

  • Participate in assigned Housing and Residence Life committees or team workgroups
  • Participate in divisional workgroups based on interest and need when applicable.
  • Respond to daily requests for information and assistance from Housing & Residence Life staff residents and campus partners.
  • Actively participate and engage in residence hall suite townhouse and/or apartment opening and closing administrative tasks/activities.
  • Participate in recruitment selection and training of staff members throughout Housing and Residence Life. This includes fulltime professional and paraprofessional staff.
  • Address behavioral problems and emergencies as applicable. Confront situations in which University and/or Housing and Residence Life policies and community standards may be violated as well as assist livein professional and paraprofessional and staff members with the resolution of difficult confrontation situations.
  • Serve on 24hour RD on Call (RDOC) duty (day evening holiday and weekend) 365 days a year in rotation with other Resident Directors Coordinators and seniorlevel Housing and Residence Life staff supporting students and student staff who are responding to a variety of emergencies. Oncall services include crisis and emergency response facility maintenance direction and support for student staff and conflict resolution for residents living in oncampus housing facilities (approximately 3000 students).

5 of Time the Coordinator of the Living Learning Program:

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. This includes but is not limited to at least 40 hours per year for full time employees dedicated to helping with broad divisional or institution programs or initiatives that may be outside the department such as MoveIn Day Welcome Week Parent & Family Weekend Bronco Day Commencement or other special projects.
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
  • Ability to identify and address students needs in developmentally intentional and appropriate ways.
  • Experience in planning implementing overseeing and assessing largescale educational social and academic programs.
  • Skills in conflict resolution mediation and problemsolving to resolve complex issues.
  • Knowledge of student development theory group dynamics and current issues and trends in higher education; an understanding of student development staff development and leadership development
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with and elicit cooperation from colleagues members of external groups and coworkers.
  • Able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff faculty and students; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships; sensibly managing emergencies and responding diplomatically and effectively to complaints.
  • Good organizational written and verbal communication skills.
MinimumQualifications:

Bachelors Degree or Equivalent Relevant Experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Higher Education Student Affairs College Student Personnel Counseling or related field
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience in similar/same type of work
  • Fluency in two or more languages
