Job Description

The University of Nevada Reno is seeking a skilled and dynamic professional to serve as the Manager of the Low Residency MFA in Visual Art. Ideal candidates will possess excellent management communication organizational and supervisory skills. Experience in communitybuilding contributing to arts networks outreach activities and developing revenuegenerating programs is essential.

The Manager oversees the Low Residency MFA program ensuring its successful integration into the Department of Art Art History and Design. Key responsibilities include collaborating with the department chair and MFA faculty and staff to align the program with departmental offerings addressing both pedagogical and budgetary concerns. The Manager will manage program budgets to ensure financial selfsufficiency and work to resolve complexities between selfsupporting and NSHEfunded budget models with particular attention to curricular ties and program innovations.

Additional duties include advising students throughout remote and residency periods fostering their academic and creative growth and representing the program within the university and broader arts communities. This position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Art Art History and Design.

The Manager Low Residency MFA in Visual Art is responsible for the following:

  • Oversee online scheduling during remote periods and manage onsite residency coordination.

  • Lead recruitment and alumni engagement strategies in collaboration with MFA faculty and the department chair.

  • Manage program budgets to ensure financial selfsufficiency including pursuing fundraising opportunities such as scholarships.

  • Collaborate with faculty to review and update program curriculum in alignment with department bylaws.

  • Coordinate state regional and national accreditation reviews including data collection and analysis.

  • Develop and manage class schedules to support timely student graduation.

  • Implement assessment practices to measure student learning and improve program quality.

  • Hire and supervise LOA instructors evaluate faculty and provide mentorship and professional development opportunities.

  • Resolve student issues and provide advice during remote and residency periods.

  • Participate in department committees and represent the program within the university and broader community.

Required Qualifications

Masters Degree and two 2 years of related work experience

Related Professional Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of contemporary art and theory

  • Higher education teaching experience in person and online (hybrid)

  • Efficient in software Adobe Creative suite (Word Excel PowerPoint etc. as well as platforms for video conferencing image sharing class organization hiring and budget management

  • Professional accomplishments relevant to the field

A valid Class C Nevada drivers license or higher operators license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.

Preferred Experience

  • PlaceBased experiential and environmentally focused practices

  • Contemporary issues in diversity equity and inclusion

  • Knowledge of and experience in publishing (books journals magazines online)

Schedule or Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel may be required

The Department of Art Art History & Design at the University of Nevada Reno offers undergraduate (BFA BA minor) and graduate degree programs in a range of studio art emphases including Book Arts Ceramics Digital Media Drawing Painting Photography Printmaking and Sculpture. In addition to the labs in these areas it has the digital Fabrication Lab Black Rock Press and multiple galleries. The department also offers bachelors degrees in art history and graphic design. The Department of Art Art History & Design functions within the School of the Arts and the College of Liberal Arts which provides a focused environment emphasizing critical perspectives and historical knowledge leading to an informed appreciation of the worlds artistic potential.
