Job Description

The RAISE Fellow trains in a oneyear accredited postprofessional orthopaedic manual physical therapy fellowship. The position includes clinical care teaching (lab instruction and clinical mentorship) and service expectations in the High Point University Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree program. The RAISE Fellowship participant will complete clinical practice in the HPU Pro Bono Physical Therapy and Departmental/TEAM Clinics. These clinics provide physical therapy care to a varied patient population. As part of the RAISE Fellowship training program protected mentoring time (a minimum of 150 hours) will focus on skills related to orthopaedic manual therapy complex patient management health behavior screening and communication/advocacy. As such applicants should possess both excellent clinical reasoning and clinical teaching skills.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate sound judgment professional etiquette and exceptional problemsolving skills. In addition to a strong desire to collaborate and make an impact in the community candidates must have excellent communication skills that will allow them to interact with various groups of people. If desired the RAISE Fellow may develop a caseload of Spanishlanguage patients. Further the ideal candidate should be hard working be able to make autonomous decisions and offer suggestions for quality improvement.

The fellowship program (see is dedicated to developing the expert clinician scientist. Upon successful completion of this program the graduating RAISE fellow will ideally be a physical therapist who is capable of evaluating and managing a complex patient population via interventions using innovative technology integrating the neuroscience of pain highly skilled manual therapy techniques and advanced communication styles. The graduating fellow will also have the opportunity to develop expertise in their desired specialty area which can include individual and/or community health initiatives professional advocacy teaching and/or research.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • DPT degree (required)

Experience and Training

  • Current physical therapy license and/or eligible for licensure in the state of North Carolina (required)
  • 13 years of clinical experience preferred but new graduates will be considered)
  • APTA Member (preferred)
  • APTA certified clinical instructor (preferred)
  • Experience working with various populations (preferred)

Knowledge Skills Ability:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (required)
  • Values teamwork collaboration selfawareness and humility (required)
  • Bilingual (preferred)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Contributes to the mission vision goals and objectives of the Department School and University
  • Provides excellent patient care
  • Completes documentation in an accurate & timely manner
  • Completes didactic coursework and successful matriculation through the fellowship training program
  • Meets departmental standards related to clinical and classroom teaching
  • Completes clinical/or laboratory research in an ethical manner
