As the Research Security Advisor (Defence) youll play a pivotal role in enhancing the Universitys research security posture. Youll spearhead the implementation of security requirements in the research context provide expert security guidance and conduct risk assessments to support regulatory compliance. This role offers you the opportunity to work with diverse stakeholders from researchers to government agencies while contributing to the Universitys research security initiatives including Defence Industry Security Program (DISP).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing and Implementing Security Systems: develop and administer security processes (including the DISP membership requirements) and conduct risk assessment for securitysensitive or regulated research.
- Providing Expert Advice: Offer policy interpretation and security guidance to the research community.
- Collaborating Across Functions: Work with various internal stakeholders to contribute to a comprehensive institutional security uplift.
- Managing Compliance: Support governance processes for the Universitys Research Security program.
You have a background in implementing research security requirements and can navigate the Universitysorganisational context and academic norms through your excellent communication skills personal drive flexibility resilience and the ability to interpret complex technical and regulatory materials to provide clear actionable advice to diverse stakeholders.
You may also:
- Hold a tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
- Have a track record of implementing governance policy and reporting outputs.
- Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to develop and deliver training materials.
- Demonstrate strong negotiation and persuasion skills.
- Have experience managing competing priorities and working collaboratively across organisational boundaries.
- Ideally have experience in a research securityrelated or compliance role in a university industry or defence context.

This role requires the successful candidate to maintain a Working with Children Check. The successful candidate can apply for the WWCC as part of the onboarding process.
