Job Description
The IAM Director oversees all aspects of solutions architecture and development in the domain of identity access management Active Directory multifactor authentication privileged access management single signon and related middleware. The position is responsible and accountable for coordinating and managing the scope estimations and delivery of multiple small to largescale projects to achieve the desired goals and benefits. The position also sets technical and service strategies provides expertise and advice for the organization and leads the delivery of identity and access services to the university and affiliates.

Establishes objectives and work plans and delegates assignments to subordinate managers. Responsible for managing preparing administering and directing resources. Reviews and approves recommendations for the identity and access management program. Involved in developing modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operations and may also have campuswide medical center or Office of the President effects. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals result in additional costs and personnel and serious delays in overall schedules.

The IAM Director will positively impact UCSFs operations and culture by ensuring UCSFs IT infrastructure is operable secure efficient and effective in service of the Universitys mission. This team member will advance the Universitys mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across customers and stakeholders. This role will execute UCSFs vision while modeling UCSFs culture and values.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $208400 $303800 (Annual Rate).

  • Extensive experience managing technical and operational staff
  • Extensive applicable experience in Identity and Access Management services and computer information systems
  • Strong knowledge of directory services (e.g. Active Directory LDAP) Single SignOn (SSO) technologies multifactor authentication (MFA) solutions rolebased access control (RBAC) identity governance and administration (IGA) and privileged access management (PAM)
  • Experience leading Identity and access management services (e.g. Okta or Sailpoint or Delinea or Shibboleth) at a large enterprise
  • Experience with Active Director (AD) including running AD operations and executing AD domain consolidations
  • Experience in a complex higher education or hospital environment serving academic research clinical and administrative functions of a large institution
  • Experienced in leading change management activities and managing their impact across multiple units or departments
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing Identity and Access Management strategies aligned with organizational goals and objectives
  • Demonstrated understanding of privacy and security regulations and best practices including federal and state laws policies and standards
  • Experience in the management of ongoing technology infrastructure acquisition and expansion to include the identification and integration of suitable emerging technologies
  • Experience using and applying advanced Information Technology principles theories and concepts to manage and provide solutions to more complex and multidimensional problems
  • Significant experience working in a projectbased environment using leading project management practices including schedule management status reporting and communication of project risks and issues
  • Extensive experience solving technical and nontechnical problems; able to delegate solutioning when appropriate to the proper resources
  • Requires the ability to gather organize and analyze data in the completion of diverse functional assignments
  • Thorough knowledge of technical concepts and basic operating principles of data communications computer hardware vendor IT products and software
  • Indepth knowledge of the applications programming development function and a broad knowledge of the IT organization
  • Advanced program management skills with demonstrated experience delegating responsibility tracking project progress supervising others and advising teams on competing priorities
  • Demonstrated understanding of how decisions affect teams
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions with integrity
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to effectively present technical topics to large groups with potentially varied levels of technical sophistication
  • Able to lead data gathering efforts seeking information from multiple and diverse sources. Experience operating as a point of escalation
  • Ability to resolve issues using established parameters and own judgment
  • Ability to understand the process involved to adapt integrate and modify existing programs or vendorsupplied products for use within a large and complex technical environment


    • Advanced degree in one or more of the following fields: information technology cybersecurity computer science public administration business administration communications
    • Inspires creativity in others and advises teams on industryleading practices such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes
    • Has demonstrated experience leading in an everchanging fastpaced environment
