Job Description

  • Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences Human Ecology Social Work Recreation Administration Planning Public Administration or other related human services program
  • Holders of degrees in Social Work must be registered with the Alberta College of Social Workers
  • A minimum of five 5 years of progressively responsible experience in related work

Assets:

  • Experience working in the homelessness and/or affordable housing sector
  • Experience navigating levels of government large corporations and community organizations
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience

Skills required for success:

  • Ability to build strong relationships and partnerships both within the corporation and with external agencies and other levels of government
  • Demonstrate highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to be confident clear respectful and sensitive
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Excellent project and process management skills and budgeting including the ability to manage multiple projects/processes concurrently and proactively
  • Strong time management prioritization and organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to prioritize and coordinate work to a deadline/tight deadline
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing contracts for social services delivery oversight of reporting and ensuring compliance and the ability to identify and solve problems
  • Ability to effectively gather synthesize integrate and interpret multifaceted information from a wide range of sources and perspectives
  • Knowledge of current community resources social issues and programs for people experiencing or atrisk of experiencing homelessness
  • Strong understanding of traumainformed approaches including specific Indigenous historical trauma
  • Work proactively with minimal direction and have a high degree of independent judgment professionalism and discretion
  • Strong leadership negotiation and conflict resolution and teambuilding skills
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to the political environment and possess strong political acumen to manage it
  • Demonstrated comfort in working with and advising senior leaders

Edmonton rests in the heart of Treaty Six territory in Alberta and the homelands of the Metis Nation.

The City of Edmontons Affordable Housing and Homelessness Section works to ensure there are adequate safe and affordable housing options for all Edmontonians and coordinates the Citys response to homelessness. Working with the Homelessness Response and Prevention team this position plays a pivotal part in preventing homelessness by providing systemlevel coordination for tenants at risk of housing loss within the Citys Problem Property Initiatives.

As a Housing Stability Coordinator you will be instrumental in fostering strong relationships with internal and external partners including various City of Edmonton business areas community stakeholders and other levels of government. You will contribute to the development and redesign of services programs and projects aimed at preventing homelessness working as part of a dynamic homelessness prevention and response team. A key aspect of your role will involve the and management of contracts with service providers and social agencies ensuring compliance and reporting on outcomes. Your contributions will also extend to the development of policies plans and strategies that inform the Citys homelessness prevention activities. You will be responsible for providing comprehensive reporting on the support provided to those in problem properties including the preparation of reports memos briefing notes and other necessary communications.
