The main purpose of this position is to oversee theimplementation of the States tidal wetland protection and managementprogram. As chief of the Tidal WetlandsDivision this position directs the overall planning development andimplementation of the program and administers the daytoday operation of theDivision. The incumbent in this willalso oversee a staff of environmental professionals and administrative supportstaff in offices in Baltimore and the Eastern Shore.
The working conditions of this position involveexposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings. Fieldwork is required in all regions of theState regardless of weather/season of yearConditions may be wet muddy hot freezing buggy etc. Footing onrocky and uneven mucky stream bottoms and wetlands may be poor. Work involves exposure to hazardousconditions which may result in injury. Work also involves specialphysical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more climbing laddersetc. In addition to the poorfooting listed in the previous explanation the employee is required to climbover fallen logs in streams and wetlands climb steep slopes that are rocky orhave loose slippery soil and other natural hazards and challenges. Workrequires the use of protective equipment such as goggles gloves masks conditions described in the previous explanation require the use ofequipment that will protect the employee when working in wet conditions andduring weather extremes such as hip boots or chest waders insulated footwearand clothing as well as wearing hard hats and goggles on construction sites asrequired.
The incumbent in this position will be required todrive a State vehicle. If you maintain an outofstate driving licenseyou must provide a certified copy of your driving record from the appropriateMotor Vehicle Administration at the time of appointment. Individualsmustmaintain a drivers license with no more than 5 points on theirdriving record in order to drive a Statevehicle.
EDUCATION:Possession of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college oruniversity that includes 30 credits in the biological environmental physicalsciences other appropriate technical discipline or possession of a Bachelorsdegree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Law orEnvironmental Public Policy or other appropriate related degree.
EXPERIENCE:Five 5 years of experience supervising professional staff in anenvironmental field or experience as an environmental project manager includingassigning tasks setting priorities and reviewing work products.
NOTES:
1 Professional or scientific experience related to natural resourcesenvironment or public health may be substituted on a yearforyear basis foreducation.
2 One additional year of experience in professional scientific naturalresources or environmental or public health may be substituted for the 30specialized academic credits.

PERSONAL LEAVE New State employees are awarded six 6 personal leave daysannually (prorated based on start date).
ANNUAL LEAVE ten 10 days of accumulated annual leave per year.
