The Position
The Organoid Gene Editing Group led at the Institute of Human Biology (IHB) at Roche in Basel Switzerland is hosting an internship position for a researcher to develop screens focused on dissecting mechanisms of intestinal nutrient uptake in human enterocytes. Your research will involve cuttingedge 3D organoid models and engineered systems thereof that allow tracking of nutrient shuttling and factors that impact this complex process. This study may yield new insights that can be exploited for the treatment of metabolic disease. We are seeking an exceptional and motivated student to contribute to this project. Your Profile
You are currently enrolled in a university . program in relevant subjects such as molecular biology biotechnology bioengineering chemical biology or related fields or you have completed your degree in the respective subjects within the past 12 months.
You have experience in primary cell culture. Prior experience with the culture of complex human model systems such as organoids is highly desirable.
Prior experience with CRISPRbased genetic engineering / screening flow cytometry imaging ELISAs and/or single cell genomic workflows is desirable.
You are interested in working with advanced cell culture models and molecular technologies to dissect the metabolic function of the intestinal tract
You are fluent in English and highly curious about science and are able to derive novel approaches and ideas from published literature.
You want to work in a highly collaborative environment where scientific exchange is highly valued
You are able to plan and perform experiments independently including their thorough interpretation and efficient documentation
Your impact
Develop intestinal epithelial models in which nutrient uptake can be tracked in close collaboration with other teams at the IHB
Execute phenotypic and genetic screens to dissect physiological regulators of nutrient uptake
Interpret experimental data and report these in presentations and a written report to colleagues
