POSITION DUTIES

Come join the Comptroller of Maryland team! We are looking for someone who has excellent communication skills a good attitude and a willingness to learn and grow in a demanding environment.

This is a intermediate level position with the Audit Preparer and Oversight in the Special Projects Section of the Revenue Administration Division. This position performs financial and compliance audits which includes reviewing and auditing suspended returns independently. The position will conduct preaudit and postaudit research showing the purpose of the audit including duties related to identifying questionable returns reviewing identity theft auditing transactions preparing audit reports and examinations and researching individual taxpayer information. This position will assist with the audit review process of tax preparers participating in Marylands Modernized Electronic Filing (MeF) program.

The position also includes the review and approval of MD State Tax Credits for both businesses and individuals.

PLEASE NOTE:May be requested to work evenings and/or Saturdays during the Tax Season. For the purpose of this statement Tax Season shall be defined as the period beginning January 15th and closing May 15th.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelors degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in Accounting and related courses including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.

Experience: One year of experience performing financial and compliance audits of a State agency grantee business or other entity.

NOTES:

  1. Applicants who had met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement.
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor or a Masters degree in accounting from an accredited college or universityfor one year of the required experience.
  3. Applicants may substitute one year of professional accounting experience for the required experience.
  4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Internal Review classifications or Auditing specialty codes in the Financial or Auditing fields of work on a yearforyear basis for the required experience.
** For education obtained outside of the U.S. you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States please submit a detailed coursebycourse evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge of Federal and State tax law
  • Good communication skills
  • Experience with handling large volumes of work and prioritizing
  • Experience with computer applications
