Job Description

The House Supervisor reflects the mission vision and values of NM adheres to the organizations Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program and complies with all relevant policies procedures guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Nursing House Supervisor performs the primary function of a professional nurse role model in assessing planning implementing and evaluating patient care in the area of her specialization taking into consideration the special needs and behaviors of the specific age of the unit population. The Nursing House Supervisor practice can be divided into four major role components: education clinical practice consultation and research. The Nursing House Supervisor is an expert clinical practitioner in his/her area of expertise with expanded authority and autonomy whose efforts are directed toward the improvement of patient care and nursing practice. The purpose of this position is to supervise and coordinate the activities of the organization and nursing personnel on the evening night and weekend shifts to maintain the continuity of nursing care in collaboration with all of nursing leadership. This highly visible position should serve as a role model for patient care and service excellence utilizing the mission vision and core values of Palos Community Hospital. Participates in quality improvement initiatives through role modeling and creation of a supportive environment. Responsibilities of this position include collaborating with nursing staff and nursing leadership managing staffing based on acuity facilitating patient throughput and demonstrating comprehensive and effective verbal and written communication to all personnel and all departments. The responsibilities are accomplished following the standard of nursing practice utilizing hospital policy and procedure and involvement of hospital leadership as appropriate.

Responsibilities:

  • Consults and receives report on individual units as to the status of patient and/or employee needs.
  • Collaborates with Charge Nurse regarding any problems with nursing care and/or staff.
  • Assumes an active role in handling and communicating patient/family complaints.
  • Delivers clear and effective messages verbally and in writing.
  • Evaluates Occurrence Reports generated on their shift.
  • Defines and analyzes problems; generates recommendations and solution. Actively participates in Nursing Department meetings
  • Assists in developing policies and procedures
  • Generates new ideas and creative solutions to support a healthy work environment.
  • Serves as a resource person to nursing personnel
  • Actively communicates information to nursing personal during shift
  • Demonstrates a commitment to exceed the expectations of patients families and internal customers.
  • Defines and analyzes problems generating recommendations and solutions
  • Notifies the necessary staff for emergency procedures
  • Authorizes patient transportation as necessary
  • Assists in problem resolution occurring in other departments
  • Participates in cost control activities through monitoring utilization of resources
  • Measures and improves individual and departmental performance
  • Assigns staff according to patient needs
  • Accepts and appropriately logs employee callins
  • Adjusts or provides for additional staffing to accommodate callins
  • Reviews licensure of Private Duty/Agency staff
  • Receives report from previous shift discusses patientstaff unit problems
  • Logs important information in Nursing Office
  • Prepares report for nursing management of all patients staff physician and visitor related occurrences
  • Assesses high risk patient populations to ensure appropriate resources are available
  • Provides feedback to the appropriate manager regarding individual staff performance and/or education deficiencies
  • Foster mutually beneficial relationships within the department of nursing and across departments
  • Encourages supports and recognizes employee successes.
  • Sets performance expectation provides feedback and coaches employees to perform to the best of their ability.
  • Provides administrative oversight of the Hospital Operations Resource Center including leading bed meetings every shift to assess and plan to manage patient flow throughout the hospital.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with other hospital departments.
  • Responsible to ensure all hospital key performance indicators (KPI) are met on a 24/7 basis.
  • Allocates hospital resources to meet KPIs.
  • Anticipate and rapidly act on throughput issues to prevent delays and reduce inpatient average length of stay.
  • Functions competently in all aspects of transfer and patient placement.

Qualifications :

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois
  • Clinical experience in area of specialization
  • CPR Basic Life Support

Preferred:

  • Prior management experience
  • CPT Advanced Cardiac Life Support
