This is a longterm substitute position for the remainder of theschool year only.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION LEVEL:

Bachelors degree and endorsements in the areas of teaching assignment. Certification alternative certification or licensure: current valid South Dakota teaching certificate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Handeye mindeye coordination. Constant hearing; intermittent speaking standing walking and writing. Frequent carrying keyboarding and other repetitive motions.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations leadership and conflict management. Knowledgeable of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students. Demonstrated skills in the use of technology to enhance student learning.

YOUTH SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION TRAINING

South Dakota Codified Law 134271 requires certified educators to complete at least one hour of approved youth suicide awareness and prevention training every five years. Compliance is verified through district accreditation reviews. You will be required to provide your most recent certificate of completion prior to starting employment with the Sioux Falls School District.

Visit to view the list of approved trainings and detailed instructions for completion. These trainings listed are the only accepted trainings per SDCL 134271. Please carefully review the options before selecting a training as unapproved trainings will require you to retake an approved course.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES

  1. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and building principals.
  2. Ability to utilize a variety of reading assessment tools in the areas of phonemic awareness phonics and sight words.
  3. Willingness to take part in intensive professional learning in phonemic awareness phonics and sight words and implement related strategies in daily instruction.
  4. A growth mindset and willingness to receive feedback.
  5. Organizational skills and initiative for working with minimal direct supervision.
  6. Evidence of ongoing professional learning and reflective practice to continuously improve student learning.
  7. Ability to use technology for teaching communicating and for gathering organizing and analyzing information.
  8. A working knowledge of current research and resources in reading in the areas of phonemic awareness phonics and sight words.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Curriculum Instruction Assessment

  1. Works effectively with small groups of struggling readers.
  2. Uses approved District curriculum for foundational skills instruction.
  3. Plans instruction to achieve reading curriculum objectives and establishes a positive classroom environment.
  4. Implements student assessments in reading.
  5. Bases instructional decisions on relevant information from research and professional literature on how students learn to decode and encode print.
  6. Works closely with Literacy TOSA and building instructional coach to reflect upon and improve instructional delivery.

Job Specific Professional Responsibilities

  1. Models or provides models for effective teaching strategies in foundational skills.
  2. Analyzes formal (mastery tests) and informal (teacher observation notes) data on student achievement in reading in order to inform instruction.
  3. Welcomes other teachers into classroom to observe teaching practices.
  4. Communicates consistently and positively with staff.
  5. Maintains confidentiality at all times.

HOURS & FTE

Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a 30minute unpaid break

1.0 FTE 40 hours per week 9 months
