What you will do at Harris County Public Library:
The Copy Cataloger Specialist is responsible for cataloging library materials by searching databases for records editing and updating those records and ensuring quality control. Tasks involve creating loading and maintaining records in the ILS (Integrated Library System) and OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) processing materials and tracking cataloging statistics.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs copy cataloging for library materials in all formats ensuring accurate and consistent catalog records
Search OCLC and other online databases to locate and retrieve catalog records for various types of library materials
Apply controlled vocabulary terms including those from Library of Congress name and subject authorities to enhance catalog records and maintain consistency
Edits catalog records to comply with local cataloging policies and practices produce accurate labels and document necessary data for processing materials
Performs quality control and loads vendorsupplied bibliographic records identifies workflow issues and reports problems related to outsourced cataloging processes
Participates in cataloging cleanup projects as needed to improve record quality
Creates and maintains holding records for materials being added to the librarys local cataloging system
Processes sorts and tubs library materials in all formats
Maintain accurate documentation and track cataloging statistics
Regularly update and maintain item records for materials in the librarys local system ensuring data accuracy and completeness
Attends professional conferences activities and staff meetings and actively serves on committees
Other duties as assigned
