The Fairbanks Criminal Division of the Alaska Court System seeks a highly dependable individual to perform duties as a Court Case Manager 1 (range 10.

The successful applicant will provide customer service and case management of criminal and minor offense cases while ensuring that all court rules statutes policies and procedures are maintained. This position calls for high attention to detail and accuracy under time constraints.


* Employees transferring from another State of Alaska agency or applicants with prior legal work experience or education in the legal field may receive consideration for advance step placement. *

This job classification may promote to salary range 11 after successful completion of three years of service with the court.

Case Manager

  • Prepare files for court: examine new case filings for compliance with rules and statutes; prepare files for out of custody and incustody arraignments; prepare files for other hearings;
  • Manage minor offenses cases;
  • Open and process other criminal cases (summons dated citations petitions to revoke probation)
  • Expedite processing of signed bench warrants; process returned summons and summons returned unserved; process governors warrants (fugitive from justice cases) affidavits for failure to report to jail; process cash bonds for defendants who have posted bail;
  • Responsible for monitoring and processing warrants bin afterarraignment bin fax/copy machine
  • Process judgments and close cases;
  • Review and process requests for courtappointed attorney;
  • Process incoming documents and route as needed; process returned mail; review community work service electronic monitoring receipts to verify compliance with court judgment;
  • Process presentence reports;
  • Other duties as assigned


Customer Service

  • Provide exemplary customer service to court patrons; assist customers at public services counter and by phone;
  • Provide information on court cases forms procedures and records without giving legal advice;
  • Review new cases for filing and compliance with court rules;
  • Review new pleadings for compliance with rules and procedural requirements; date stamp and lodge appropriate documents when accepted;
  • Enter case information and docket entries in CourtView;
  • Recognize and handle documents requiring priority action including expedited motions stipulations attorney request for hearing etc.;
  • Manage individual cash drawer: accept payments for bail courtimposed fines surcharges restitution and judgments; apply money to correct court case; determine correct accounting code; make change for cash transactions;
  • Prepare case files and documents for microfilming; assist other departments as needed.

Work Hours:
This position is scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours are Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a onehour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience AND the ability to keyboard at least 40 words per minute (net).

Substitution:

Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a monthformonth basis.

Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.

Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary paralegal or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a monthformonth basis.
