Job Description

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a talented software development engineer to design and build customer facing crossdomain cloud services. The AWS Cross Domain Services team provides solutions for customers to move data between AWS regions and accounts with differing security requirements.

Join us in building and developing novel solutions to solve big data problems and provide analytic visibility into the AWS Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) workflow.

About our Software Development Engineers:

Our engineers use AWS technologies to build cloudnative data solutions that process data from across all AWS allowing teams to efficiently and securely operate their services across multiple regions. As part of our team youll be challenged to think outside the box and not only meet the needs of our customers today but also analyze data to predict and create what theyll need in the future. Youll have the opportunity to tackle big technical problems and push the boundaries on whats possible for cloud computing.

In this role you will:
Work closely with lead software engineers to deliver features in support of service teams.
Collaborate closely with data engineers site reliability engineers technical program managers and other roles across AWS to build highly available data services to retrieve transform and publish data.
Work in support of all Amazonians building deploying and operating their services consistently across all AWS regions according to AWS operational excellence best practices.
Invent and Simplify to improve existing services for performance cost reliability recoverability and security.

Key job responsibilities
Develop dynamic web applications and the APIs that power them
Design and code new APIs (Java) that support both web and programmatic callers
Create backend systems that scale by leveraging NoSQL and SQL databases (RDS & DynamoDB)
Deliver frontend website UIs (JavaScript TypeScript React) through creating and translating mockups into code
Support the Region Services organization mission through the creation of tooling for AWS region builds service expansion and feature tracking
When youre ready you will have oncall responsibilities typically for one week every two months. No one likes getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend so we work hard to ensure that our systems are fault tolerant and resilient. When we do get paged we work together to resolve the root cause of the issue so that we never get paged for the same issue twice.

A day in the life
Cross Domain Services secure manage and support all data ingress and egress from Amazon dedicated and sovereign clouds. We provide simplified ubiquitous secure connectivity through AWS Diode and Bridges; we provide managed export of operational data with Blackmirror; and we inspect dataflows using Pattern.

The BlackMirror Team is responsible for a metric portal used by all AWS service teams and the APIs that support as well as metric data lifecycle management.

The Pattern Team provides security analytics and anomaly detection for ADC environments enabling swift incident response and investigation capabilities. We build and deploy detectors to monitor data flow categorize transferred data and maintain a historical record for comparative analysis.

3 years of noninternship professional software development experience
2 years of noninternship design or architecture (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
Bachelors degree or CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional)
Experience programming with at least one software programming language

3 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent
Experience developing with MVC/MVM frameworks (e.g. AngularJS Vue TypeScript)
Current active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above
