IMPORTANT: SR22 (Appointment may be made at any rate within the salary range from $6392 SR22D to $7320 SR22I per month at which appropriate qualified employees can be verified.
Does moderately difficult professional engineering work in the design construction maintenance and operation of civil engineering projects; prepares designs plans specifications estimates and reports; and performs other duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class differs from that of the Civil Engineer II in that the Civil Engineer III exercises a substantial degree of engineering judgment and may assume responsibility for projects of welldefined routine or uncomplicated nature in testing designing computation or construction or assists a registered civil engineer on the more complex projects; whereas the Civil Engineer II assumes only limited responsibility but exercises some degree of judgment based on experience.
This class differs from that of Civil Engineer IV in that the Civil Engineer III may be responsible for projects of welldefined routine or uncomplicated nature; whereas the Civil Engineer IV is responsible for the development analyses responsibility for supervision or coordination is pronounced.

Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in civil engineering and two 2 years of professional civil engineering experience.
License Requirement: None.
Knowledge of: civil engineering principles and practices; engineering mathematics; engineering mechanics and the mechanics of materials; hydraulic hydrologic structural mechanical electrical and sanitary engineering principles to the extent that these apply to the general field of civil engineering.
Ability to: do civil engineering design work or supervise construction and inspection activities; analyze stresses and determine the required foundations and structural features; supervise a small group of subordinate professional or sub professional employees; prepare engineering and inspection reports.

EXAMINATIONS ARE ADMINISTERED IN THE COUNTY OF MAUl ONLY
The above examination is being given on an opencompetitive basis to establish an eligible list which shall be effective for not more than one year unless extended by the Director of Personnel Services.

PreEmployment/PostOffer Drug Screening Test: All applicants who will enter a safety sensitive position or certain designated categories that the Personnel Services Director has established or who are required by law to be drug tested must pass a preemployment/postoffer drug screening test as a condition of employment. There is no retesting or reevaluation process. Cost for the drug screening test shall be borne by the County of Maui.
