Job Description

ABOUT INUVIALUIT REGIONAL CORPORATION (IRC)

IRC was created in 1984 to represent the Inuvialuit and their rights and benefits obtained under one of Canadas oldest comprehensive land claim agreements. With assets over $1 billion not including vast land holdings IRC is responsible for corporate investment land management and a broad range of social cultural and economic programs and services benefiting Inuvialuit. Its subsidiaries have interests in grocery manufacturing property management transportation and significant dealings in the oil and gas industry.

Since its inception IRC has experienced considerable growth and its structure and operations have become increasingly complex. Combining local government and service delivery community development investment and operating business divisions all managed by a single back office the organization has an array of complexities for the executive staff to navigate. There is an emphasis on fostering understanding healing and resilience in a region brimming with unique social challenges and immense potential for transformative change.

JOB SUMMARY

The Environmental Policy Analyst plays a key role in shaping the environmental and policy landscape of the ISR. Reporting to the Director of Inuvialuit Lands the Analyst is responsible for evaluating programs policies and projects to enhance the management and sustainability of Inuvialuit lands. This includes developing and analyzing program designs drafting new policies and evaluating environmental impacts. The role also involves monitoring land use activities ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and providing expertise to the Inuvialuit Land Administration Commission (ILAC). Collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders is essential to advance sustainable land management practices and the goals of the Inuvialuit Land Administration.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Masters degree in Environmental Management Policy or a related field (preferred); or a minimum of two years of related experience in environmental management or policy in a crosscultural or northern setting.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation regulations and policies particularly in the ISR and Northwest Territories.
  • Proficiency in database management systems such as Microsoft Access.
  • Ability to analyze business and government documents including budgets cost ledgers and program evaluations.
  • Proven ability to present complex information effectively to various audiences including nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in mentoring and training programs particularly in crosscultural settings.
  • Excellent analytical writing and reporting skills.
