Job Description

Overview

The Wellness Promotion and Suicide Prevention Coordinator is responsible for developing implementing and evaluating wellness promotion and suicide prevention programs at Utah State University including Logan and Statewide Campuses. This role focuses on enhancing the overall wellbeing of students and strengthening USUs culture of care through proactive upstream interventions and outreach initiatives. Additionally this role assists with the compliance work related to relevant policies and laws (e.g. Stop Campus Hazing Act).

The scope of this position includes suicide prevention mental health promotion health promotion interpersonal violence prevention hazing prevention and sexual health promotion. This position plays a key role in coordinating universitywide wellness initiatives through close collaboration with key partners including the CAPS AOD Specialist the Office of Sexual & AntiViolence Information (SAAVI) Campus Recreation and the Office of Equity. This position is a member of CAPS and reports directly to the Executive Director of CAPS. It can be a clinical or nonclinical position based on the applicants interest and experience. This position is based in Logan and periodic travel to Statewide Campuses is expected.

Responsibilities

Program Development Implementation and Evaluation 6585:

  • Develop implement and evaluate individual and communitylevel programs for wellness promotion initiatives including Upstander training for bystander intervention and other trainings and campaigns for suicide prevention interpersonal violence prevention and sexual health promotion.
  • Develop implement and evaluate individual and communitylevel programs and training in compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act.
  • Develop implement and evaluate communitybuilding activities and initiatives for USU students as a prevention strategy.
  • Evaluate data (e.g. the National College Health Assessment Survey the Healthy Minds Study) to develop datadriven strategies and utilize evidencebased practices to inform initiatives.
  • Assess the effectiveness of wellness programs through surveys feedback and data analysis.
  • Initiate campus partnerships to integrate wellness promotion into broader university initiatives.
  • Lead or assist in compliance work related to health promotion including initiatives and requirements under the Stop Campus Hazing Act.
  • Chair CAPSs wellness promotion committee which includes the Alcohol and Other Drug Specialist the REACH Peer Coordinator and Residence Life embedded therapists.
  • May create and oversee an undergraduate peer educator program for studentled training initiatives events and activities.
  • Organize communications to the university community to inform them about CAPS services and availability.
  • Maintain accurate records of program activities and participation.

Direct Clinical Services Optional 20:

  • Provide initial triage consultations crisis interventions intake assessments and individual therapy to students.
  • Maintain timely and accurate records of clinical services.

Other Administrative Duties 15:

  • Serve in a consultant and expert role in mental health promotion and suicide prevention to student services units student organizations student leaders colleges and schools.
  • Participate in universitywide committees as needed.
  • Participate in weekly case staffing and administrative staff meetings.
  • Engage in staff development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in public health higher education social work counseling or other related field.
  • One year of experience developing implementing and evaluating health/wellness promotion initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience developing implementing and evaluating health/wellness promotion initiatives.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Expertise in suicide prevention mental health and/or sexual violence.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills (Word Outlook Zoom etc.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel to Statewide locations by car.
  • Excellent interpersonal organizational problem solving and decisionmaking skills as well as a commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth.
