Job Description

*This is a PartTime Temporary hourly intermittent position with the possibility of extension*

Job Summary

Within one of the nations most transformative universities SJSUs Student Wellness Center (SWC) fosters student opportunity in a revolutionary way by preparing students to maintain lifelong health and wellbeing. The Student Wellness Center provides a variety of health counseling and wellbeing services to SJSU students. Reporting to the Director of Health Services the Physical Therapist treats biomechanical muscularskeletal dysfunctions of patients referred by SWC health providers. The Physical Therapist will assess patient needs upon referral develop a variety of short and longterm treatment goals and plan and implement the appropriate treatment program utilizing a variety of professional physical therapy procedures. Working collaboratively to support student success is the bottom line purpose of this and all Student Wellness Center positions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform initial evaluation and assessment of patients referred for physical therapy
  • Administer standard diagnostic and prognostic examination of muscle nerve joint and functional ability
  • Plan treatment objectives according to results of evaluation
  • Implement treatment programs using the full range of various physical therapy techniques and standards within scope of practice
  • Promptly complete thorough patient electronic records which include visit notes phone calls messages and treatment plan(s)
  • Administer active passive and resistive therapeutic exercises local or general massage muscle training and reeducation corrective exercises and neuromuscular coordination
  • Design and construct specialized testing and treatment equipment
  • Maintain inventory and care for equipment and treatment space
  • Notify the Director about physical therapy budget needs and requisitions required for maintenance of inventory and equipment as appropriate
  • Ensure completeness accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions related to Physical Therapy

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and methods of physical therapy including operation of therapeutic devices machines and equipment used for physical therapy treatments
  • Thorough knowledge of the physical effects resulting from various types of physical therapy treatments skeletal anatomy and the basic pathology involved in diseases or injuries including injuries encountered in athletics
  • Ability to develop a treatment program and administer various types of physical therapy treatments
  • Ability to develop new treatments or modify treatments to meet the needs of patients
  • Ability to evaluate and test procedures
  • Ability to interpret physical therapy treatments and teach patients the fundamentals of selfcare and other suitable activities including treatments which must be continued at home
  • Ability to plan and integrate departmental activities with other Wellness Center activities.
  • Ability to compile maintain review and evaluate reports and case histories
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and take prompt emergency action including seeking emergency support as applicable.
  • Ability to develop manuals and procedural instructions for the physical therapy department
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple work priorities organize and plan work and projects
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive communications with employees and external agencies
  • Effective communication across a variety of venues
  • Must possess excellent customer services and public relations skills

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of a professional physical therapy degree program of an accredited postsecondary institution or other institutions or programs approved by the Physical Therapy Board of California
  • Possess and maintain a valid license as a Registered Physical Therapist issued by the Physical Therapy Board of California

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess and maintain basic life support (BLS) certification in CPR/AED
  • Experience providing physical therapy within a college environment
  • At least three 3 years of progressively responsible professional physical therapy experience
  • At least three 3 years of specialized experience related to orthopedics sports medicine and rehabilitation

Compensation

Classification: Physical Therapist I
Anticipated Hiring Range: $50.50/hour $52.50/hour
CSU Salary Range: $27.36/hour $52.81/hour
