TheGreeley Fire Departmentis seeking qualified applicants to establish an eligibility list for the position of fulltimeFirefighter/EMTParamedic.

The City of Greeley Fire Department provides an All Hazards emergency response for a population of over 115000 citizens and covers a response area of 64 square miles. The Department responds to over 18000 emergency calls from seven fire stations and is comprised of 135 personnel. The Department provides Advanced Life Support Service at the Paramedic level and partners with an ambulance contractor who provides transport services.

The Greeley Fire Department is proud of its longstanding tradition of providing world class emergency services. Those qualified candidates who are highly motivated and who have demonstrated sound honest and truthful actions with a commitment to service are highly desirable.

Firefighter/Paramedics perform individually and/or as a member of a team and participate in activities in the following areas: combating extinguishing and preventing fires; responding to emergency medical and traffic accident calls and other related public assistance activities; performing routine custodial maintenance of fire department equipment apparatus and facilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

21 years of age at time of application deadline

High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)

Valid FireTEAM test score

Possession of valid drivers license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with City of Greeleys driving records policy. State of Colorado license required by hire date

Possess and maintain a current State of Colorado and/or National Registry EMTParamedic Certification

Current Basic Life Support and ACLS Provider cards

Valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) certification at time of application and upon a Conditional Job Offer.

Must be able to pass a comprehensive preemployment background check criminal history motor vehicle record review and drug screen utilizing the following criteria:

No felony convictions or conviction involving moral turpitude

No felonious drug usage or related activities within the previous 5 years

No arrest for DUI DWAI or DUID within the last 5 years

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Responds to emergencies.

Performs job functions as required based on recognized standards for required certifications.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;

Ability to record information accurately;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees;

Ability to provide professional customer service;

Ability to work effectively with the public in situations involving severe trauma;

Ability to learn a variety of fire fighting duties methods and techniques;

Ability to use both manual and power tools;

Ability to work independently or as a part of a team;

Ability to climb ladders and work at various heights;

Ability to recognize hazardous conditions and to respond quickly to changing situations under those conditions;

Ability to move heavy objects 50 pounds or more) bend climb push pull stoop and kneel in awkward and cramped positions to perform tasks normally associated with this position;

Ability to work 48/96 hour work schedule;

Ability to respond to fire accident or medical emergency scenes at any time during work schedule;

Ability to work in adverse conditions (i.e. weather around fuels oils cleaning fluids and fumes extreme heat and cold etc.;

Ability to provide specialized training to Department members if qualified;

Ability to maintain physical fitness according to Department standards;

Ability to present safety and informational presentations to public;

Operates computers for record keeping documentation and communication;

General knowledge of the City of Greeley and the Fire Department policies rules and regulations;

Knowledge of and skill in emergency rescue procedures;

Knowledge of and skill in applying fire fighting techniques;

Knowledge of and skill in applying appropriate safety practices in appropriate situations;

Knowledge of and skill in applying life saving techniques;

Knowledge of modern fire fighting duties methods and techniques

Working Environment &Physical Requirements

Required to work either a 48hour shift work schedule 48 on / 96 off) or an 8hour day / 40hour week schedule

Required to participate in public safety education and fire prevention activities

Required to respond to fire accident medical or other emergency scenes at any time during 48hour schedule

Inability to leave work site/scene during 48hour shift

Works with the public in situations involving severe physical and personal trauma

May be exposed to toxic gases

May be exposed to hazards which create potential for personal injury

May be exposed to seasonal weather conditions

Operates or is a passenger in an emergency vehicle responding to fire accident or medical emergency scenes

Required to wear safety equipment as stipulated by departmental standard operating procedures

Vision sufficient to perform functions such as read and review written communications to obtain onscene information regarding fire accident or medical emergency to render appropriate assistance

Hearing and speech enough to communicate clearly and distinctly facetoface as well as over the radio in normal and adverse conditions

Arm and hand steadiness and manual dexterity to use firefighting extrication and basic life support tools

Stamina enough to remain physically active during a fire accident or medical emergency scene until relieved

Stamina and strength enough to move heavy objects 50 lbs. or more) long distances (over 20 feet)

Ability to distinguish possible types of fires by color of smoke or flame

Ability to effectively perform job duties at varying heights or in confined spaces under adverse conditions
