POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Superintendent the Assistant Superintendent leads the efforts to ensure students staff and colleagues are aligned around a common vision and direction for teaching learning access and opportunity for every student every day in service of the Districts Vision and Results. This position provides leadership and fosters collaboration across the Cabinet team to improve student achievement and wellbeing across the system with the focus on sustaining a commitment to excellence while addressing opportunity gaps and removing barriers that create those gaps. As an executive leader the Assistant Superintendent ensures the highlevel performance of administrators and colleagues in service of students staff and families. The Assistant Superintendent ensures the districts commitment to equity and inclusion is integrated into all facets of collaboration across the district while providing visionary leadership for all schools academic programs and initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Academic Leadership and Student Success
  • Provide vision leadership and direction for instructional leadership across all schools programs and departments.
  • Review update/delegate and implement regulations and practices related to curriculum instruction academic programs and student services.
  • Ensure that programs and resources are effective and aligned (e.g. programs curriculum instruction services Results Operational Expectations and strategic plan) and advance the achievement and wellbeing of each student.
  • Oversee the approach and framework for school and department improvement plans utilizing progress monitoring systems and short cycles of continuous learning.
  • Facilitate the implementation of Universal Design for Learning Multitiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and evidencebased practices to address achievement gaps.
  • Ensure that K12 curriculum is consistently implemented with standards teaching materials and assessments all working together as one cohesive system.
  • Establish clear systems for monitoring student academic and behavioral progress and responding to student needs.
Executive Leadership and Team Leadership
  • Expand access to highquality learning experiences while reducing opportunity gaps and managing the shifts and change.
  • Advance equity and inclusion in educational practices leadership and all service levels.
  • Supervise and evaluate Executive Directors.
  • Partner with the Chief of Finance and Operations to manage and align fiscal and personnel resources to meet organization goals and needs.
  • Partner with the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and others on ongoing improvements in new teacher and paraprofessional onboarding and professional learning practices that foster a culture of belonging.
  • Design and deliver instructional and executive leadership professional learning for all administrators at leadership meetings and the support of effective use of level meetings called sectionals.
  • Create conditions and culture for effective crossdepartmental collaboration to ensure student achievement and wellbeing build capacity improve systems and structures and resolve complex issues.
  • Promote and model effective engagement and design principles for collaboration and partnership opportunities.
  • Serve as a member of the Superintendents Cabinet and stand in for the Superintendent when absent.
District Responsibilities
  • Serve as a representative of the Superintendent and District across the community including assuming responsibility for the District in the absence of the Superintendent.
  • Engage community partners in supporting district academic and student support initiatives.
  • Lead the implementation of the districts strategic plan as it relates to teaching learning and student success
  • Attend all board meetings preparing and sharing information related to all areas of responsibilities.
  • Partner with the Superintendent and other team members on annual monitoring and support the board in their duties and discussion.
  • Possess knowledge of and adhere to Governing Policies and District Regulations and Procedures.
  • Assist in interpreting and administering policies rules and regulations established by the federal government the Legislature state and local boards of education and the school board relevant to areas of responsibilities.
  • Oversee the management of state and federal grants related to academic programs.
  • Hear appeals on behalf of the Superintendent.
  • Participate in special projects as assigned and perform related duties and key responsibilities consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: School Administrator Credentials required. Masters Degree or higher in Educational Administration Policy Public Administration or related field highly preferred
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three 3 years successful teaching experience in public schools. Minimum of five 5 years successful experience as a principal strongly preferred. Prior central office experience overseeing executive/Cabinet level team members preferred. Further the individual will have skills in:
  • Developing articulating and implementing a vision and strategies for an effective educational program that promotes high levels of student achievement for early learners up to age 22.
  • Achieving meaningful measurable and manageable results with a focus on raising the overall levels of achievement while closing opportunity gaps.
  • Using data to drive decisions in order to communicate and educate others on implementing continuous improvement and sustainable change.
  • Building an environment of trust teamwork and effective communication across systems to break down silos.
  • Managing change and adapting communication engagement and codesign experiences based on new information and feedback.
  • Balancing longterm planning with the ability to pivot and adapt quickly using prioritization skills and the 80/20 rule (Pareto Principle).
  • Anticipating needs in areas of responsibility and independence coupled with appropriate consultation with others in following through with areas of responsibility.
  • Cocreating planning and facilitating engaging and high impact adult learning experiences.
  • Making the best decisions possible in a timely fashion and quickly facilitative group problemsolving and/or coordinated responses to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Restoring trust resolving conflict and addressing issues and grievances.
  • Communicating effectively and as a spokesperson for the district inspiring confidence and trust especially in times of conflict and crisis.
  • Managing budgets and resource allocation to reflect student needs and organizational priorities while making room for innovation.
  • Collaborating with labor partners and have bargaining experience.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:CPR/First Aid Certificate (may be required). Valid WA State drivers license and appropriate insurance required. Must maintain as current any certification or license listed herein and held at hire date.
CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING: That which is required to be effective in the position and to maintain certification.
CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice fingerprint/Background Clearance
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
