General Summary


Help support Parks and Recreation in their mission to enhance the quality of life for all through the stewardship of public land and parks and to provide quality recreational experiences.

The hiring amount for this position is $16.50 an hour. This is a nonexempt seasonal (variable/limitedhour) position and is not eligible for city benefits.

The Seasonal Trail Maintenance Worker assigned to the Parks Division provides customer service and city beautification through efficient maintenance of city park trails and grounds. Provides service assistance in many functional areas within the Park system which may include any one or more of the following tasks: Mowing and turf maintenance facility maintenance planting and watering trees flower beds and pots custodial duties and assists with maintenance installation and construction. This position will primarily perform work in the following areas: trail maintenance natural area and forest management; which may require the ability to work in wooded and or undeveloped parks including stream valleys hilly terrain etc.

This position performs routine semiskilled work in a variety of construction repair and maintenance assignments involving the use of common tools and operates equipment in connection with the semiskilled tasks to which assigned; does related work as required. Primarily and most frequently the work done here is under general supervision with related functional areas and more advanced applications.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Responsible for facilities grounds and City infrastructure maintenance functions;
  • Assists with construction and maintenance projects;
  • Performs simple repair and completes maintenance assignments;
  • May be exposed to or required to use chemicals in general maintenance responsibilities;
  • Assists senior workers in semiskilled work and the use of hand tools and maintenance equipment;
  • Operates hand tools and power equipment associated with custodial construction and maintenance operations;
  • May operate vehicles as required;
  • Must have the willingness and flexibility to work as a member of one or several teams;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical requirements for this position as outlined by the Department of Labor: HEAVY WORK: Heavy Work involves exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

This position may be required to work weekends nights holidays and/or emergency oncall.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to drug and alcohol testing for preemployment reasonable suspicion postaccident and random testing.

The majority of time spent in this position involves outside work which may involve extreme temperatures extreme brightness chemicals/hazardous waste bloodborne pathogens infectious bacteria fuels and allergens. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

This position also requires the regular use of or subject to vibration ladder/step stool traffic/roadways driving light equipment and/or moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
