Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications from current seniors or recent graduates from Amherst or the Five Colleges for the Social Media Coordinator / Green Dean position. The Social Media Coordinator / Green Dean is a fulltime oneyear term position starting at $19.72/hour. Given Amhersts distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
The Social Media Coordinator / Green Dean helps manage and oversee the Colleges central social media channels as well as the Presidents social media channels. It is an essential role within the social media team in the Office of Communications. This position takes charge of the daytoday operations of social media: creating producing and editing content from text to videography photography graphic design and more; monitoring responding to and engaging with comments direct messages and tags in a timely manner; remaining current on the social media landscape and brainstorming ideas; liaising with campus partners on content and assisting social media practitioners across the College with their own strategies; helping mentor and direct the student intern team; and serving as a critical backup point to the Director of Social and New Media.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Creatively develop design and produce social media content of all kinds videography photography and text to enhance Amhersts social media presence tailored to varying audiences and aligned with the offices strategic communications plan
Monitor respond to and engage with comments messages and mentions in a timely and professional manner
Working closely with the Director of Social and New Media write edit and publish/schedule engaging social media content across the Colleges social media channels and plan the social media content calendar
Attend weekly Office of Communications editorial meetings and social media team meetings as well as work collaboratively with the social media intern team the Office of Communications campus partners students faculty and alumni to creatively mine stories and ideas in support of social media strategy
Helps mentor and direct social media interns
Conduct social listening and help raise and summarize emerging issues trends and crises related to the College for review
Assist in the development of a campuswide social media directory and help assist social media practitioners across the College in successfully implementing policies and guidelines when using social media in an official Amherst College capacity
Stays up to date with industry trends social media best practices and emerging platforms and brainstorms how the College can tell its stories creatively through trends
Assists the Director in collecting and analyzing social media metrics trends and data
Serves as backup to the Director of Social and New Media when necessary
Qualifications:
Current senior or recent graduate from Amherst College or the Five Colleges
Demonstrated understanding of social media platforms
Writing and editing skills
Video editing skills particularly for socialfirst video
Excellent time management skills and thorough attention to detail
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community
Successful completion of required reference and background checks
Preferred
Bachelors degree in film and media studies communications or journalism
Photography skills
