Job Description

Under the general direction of the Director of Athletics the Graduate Assistant Swimming will assist the head coach in recruiting qualified studentathletes to the program instruct and develop the studentathlete in the sport of swimming meet preparation and community involvement. Instruction should include but not be limited to stroke technique race strategies and the planning and of regular practices training camps and taper practices.

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Coaching Instruction and Team Administration 60

  • Assist the head coach to organize and conduct practices during the traditional season (as defined by the National Collegiate Athletic Association) for the sport. Nontraditional (or outofseason) season practices may be required;
  • Assist the head coach to serve as the representative of the department and the College during team travel for in and outofseason competition;
  • Participate in uniform and equipment purchase process;
  • Help plan and coordinate team travel;
  • Help develop and implement fundraising strategies;
  • Assist the head coach to complete inand offseason scheduling for the program;
  • Work within NCAA guidelines regarding the start of the season dates of competition and end of the season;
  • Be able to represent the Department of Athletics at all oncampus Admissions Open Houses and/or other predetermined events;
  • Other duties as assigned by the head coach.

Recruiting 30

  • Assist the head coach in developing a recruiting strategy to achieve recruiting goals as preapproved by the Director of Athletics;
  • Work with the head coach and Office of Admission to recruit qualified prospective studentathletes both incoming freshmen and transfers to Hood College;
  • Must be able to recruit during the summer;
  • Must be able to work weekends & travel.

Site Management 10

  • Represent the Department of Athletics at selected home athletic events.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.

  • Proven integrity leadership and a thorough knowledge of swimming are required.
  • Candidates should possess a strong commitment and ability to motivate teach counsel and recruit academically qualified studentathletes.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Current CPR/Lifeguard certification preferred.

Education

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Full acceptance into one of Hoods graduate programs is required.
  • Desire to coach in the future preferred.
  • Any prior swim coaching experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations is preferred. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.

Technology Skills

  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite such as Microsoft Word Excel etc.
  • Proficient with the internet and email.
  • Social Media proficiency (creating and posting) preferred.

    Compensation

    The compensation for Athletic Graduate Assistants consists of a $3000 annual stipend a tuition waiver for up to 18 credits per year campus housing and a meal plan. This temporary position is not benefitseligible except for paid Maryland sick leave. Learn more about Hood College.
