Help ensure the safety of employees and the community as a Safety Specialist I!

TheDepartment of Environmental Services (ENV)Refuse Collection and Disposal Division is hiring a Safety Specialist I. Located in Kapolei this position assists the Administrative Specialist III in managing the divisions safety program which includes preparing/conducting training preparing statistics/reports inspecting operations/facilities enforcing safety practices and requirements and investigating injuries/accidents. Adhering to applicable safety practices rules and procedures you will be tasked to perform all duties safely and appropriately to ensure the safety of self coworkers and the general public.

Special Work Requirements: Possible field exposure to underground high voltage cables vehicular traffic handling of refuse confined spaces. May be subject to report to emergencies outside of the normal work hours. Will serve as a Disaster Response Worker during declared civil defense emergencies.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application you must be a citizen national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a noncitizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:


Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionallyaccredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program evidence of comparability or an original transcript.

Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your education in order to be given credit.Please attach an electronic copy of your diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal or applicable FCE to your application; or mail or drop off a photocopy of your documents to the following address: Department of Human Resources 650 South King Street 10th Floor Honolulu HI 96813. Copies will not be returned. Unofficial transcripts will not be accepted. All information must be legible and complete in order to be given credit.

Substitution: Work experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a yearforyear basis. Such experience must have provided the knowledge skills and analytical ability normally gained from attainment of a bachelors degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
One year ofprofessional (postbachelors degree nonclerical) experience in industrial safety and accident prevention activities.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of: safety laws and other accepted standards applicable to industrial safety and accident prevention; industrial and construction accident hazards and methods of correction and prevention; common industrial safety devices and equipment; safety inspection principles practices and procedures; and safety education media principles and procedures. Additionally such experience must have demonstrated the ability to: make safety inspections and detect unsafe conditions and practices; interpret and enforce pertinent safety laws codes rules and regulations; investigate and determine the causes of accidents; and conduct safety education and instruction courses.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license (automobile/Type 3 prior to appointment.
