BIIDAABAN KINOOMAAGEGAMIK

Is seeking a

Intermediate TEACHER (GRADE 8

Starting as soon as possible to June 2024 with possibility for extension

Job Summary:

Responsible for the education of the students in his/her charge and for working with students parents other teachers and school staff towards achieving the goals set forth in BIIDAABAN KINOOMAAGEGAMIK Schools Mission Statement. In addition to programming teaching and supervising the teacher shall work as part of the school staff on related activities such as sports curriculum development and supervision of other students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform the duties and responsibilities of the classroom teacher; delivery of daily lesson plans.
  • Functions as an employee of Sagamok Anishnawbek in the area of confidentiality and professional ethics.
  • To conduct an organized and professional classroom.
  • To encourage students in the pursuit of learning.
  • To complete daily attendance registers and ensure that all students are accounted for.
  • To treat all students equitably and to accommodate the differences in students and respect their diversity.
  • To develop a level of behaviour that is acceptable to the School community and students and to maintain that level within the School environment.
  • To report all activities and concerns to the Principal regarding students the classroom or the School environment.
  • To supervise students at any time.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Principal and/or described in the Biidaaban School Policy and Procedure Manual.

Qualifications/Terms & Conditions:

  1. A valid Teacher Certificate from a province in Canada equivalent to an O.T.C.
  2. B.A. B.S. B. Ed. or other university degree
  3. Additional Qualifications Special Education part I II & III or Special Education Specialist and one of Teaching Students with Behavioral Needs Teaching Students with Communication Needs (Autism Spectrum Disorder/Learning Disability)
  4. FASD training/certification CPI training would be considered an asset
  5. Knowledge and awareness of Anishnaabe language and culture
  6. Demonstrated initiative and skills in the following areas: relationship and community building educational leadership communication conflict resolution creativity problem solving decisionmaking and time management.
  7. Expert level written and oral communication skills.
  8. Demonstrated experience in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery.
  9. Knowledge of and commitment to the core curriculum.
  10. Must successfully pass Vulnerable Sector Screening Check conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police and/or Police Agency. Checks must be within six months.
  11. Copies of practice teaching reports and/or performance appraisals.
