Department Information

The Department of Art & Creative Media offers rigorous experiencebased instruction in the practices of studio art creative media art history and art education. A fulltime faculty of working artists and scholars along with accomplished visiting professionals are dedicated to the development of emerging creatives who enrich our society with thoughtful insight valuable skill sets and an understanding of the responsibilities that come with visual literacy.

Creativity and critical insights are essential to any academic inquiry. As such the Department is committed to being accessible to students from a variety of university disciplines our vibrant Pueblo culture and the Southwest United States. Art history and education are fundamental to a communitys identity; they are a reflection of its values and are key to fostering a diverse culture of lifelong learners.

Description of Job

The Department of Art and Creative Media invites applicants for a fulltime lecturer position in Studio Art with a 4/4 teaching load. The Department is looking for an artist to teach two or more of the following studio art areas: drawing painting printmaking sculpture. In addition the candidate may teach additional support courses in Art Appreciation Professional Development or other areas within the candidates expertise such as exhibition design or nontraditional media.

The qualifications to successfully perform this job are:

  • Evidence of promise in effectiveness at collegelevel teaching in studio art.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence awareness of societal and structural inequities and proven experience in effectively establishing relationships and positive communications with students across multiple dimensions of diversity including but not limited to race gender disabilities nationality sexual orientation gender identity class or religious perspectives.
  • Working knowledge of theory relating to contemporary art practice.

Primary Duties
Teaching a 4/4 load of courses in drawing painting printmaking and/or sculpture department support courses (such art appreciation or professional development) and/or in areas of candidates expertise.

$47800 to $54500

Minimum Qualifications
  • Masters of Fine Arts in Studio Art or closely related field
  • Demonstrated cultural competence awareness of societal and structural inequities and proven experience in effectively establishing relationships and positive communications with students and other constituents across multiple dimensions of diversity including but not limited to race gender disabilities nationality sexual orientation gender identity class or religious perspectives.
  • Working knowledge of theory relating to contemporary art practice.
  • Experience teaching studio art courses at the college level.
