Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Regional Director of Quality and Patient Safety for our Coastal Community of Care.

Reporting to the Executive Director Quality and Patient Safety the Regional Director Quality and Patient Safety leads health authority wide strategic development implementation and evaluation of VCHs clinical quality and patient safety priorities. This role ensures compliance with accreditation requirements while driving initiatives that enhance patient safety and care quality across the organization. The Regional Director oversees a multisite multidisciplinary team across the Communities of Care and the broader region embedding a culture of continuous quality improvement throughout the organization.

As part of the senior leadership team within a Community of Care (CoC) the Regional Director operates within a matrix reporting structure and provides strategic leadership in quality and patient safety. They bring expertise in strategic planning leadership problemsolving and adaptive decisionmaking advancing evidenceinformed clinical quality and fostering collaboration with service providers and key partners across the healthcare system. Guided by VCHs Mission Vision and Values the Regional Director develops and implements a strategic framework organizational policies and initiatives in alignment with the Ministry of Healths mandate and Accreditation Canadas Required Organizational Practices. They identify opportunities to enhance quality and patient safety incorporating partner insights into clinical policies education and system redesign to support VCHs goals.

Success in this role requires expert oversight and strategic planning at all levelsfrom pointofcare teams to senior leadership and the Board. The Regional Director strengthens alignment across VCH through datadriven insights performance measurement and continuous improvement strategies. They also represent VCH at local provincial and national health sector and government committees ensuring alignment with emerging research policy trends and best practices in healthcare.

As a Regional Director Quality and Patient Safety with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

  • Demonstrate strategic planning leadership expertise situational management and problem solving including the promotion of evidenceinformed clinical quality related activities and engagement of partners including all service providers.
  • Lead in the development and implementation of an organizational quality and patient safety framework for the organization to support engagement of partners from point of care through planning and delivery that includes their unique insights including development and monitoring of key performance indicators.
  • Lead a team and is responsible for the development and oversight of regional Quality & Patient Safety strategic portfolio priority(ies) in addition to leading quality and patient safety initiatives across the organization/designated areas/facilities.
  • Oversee and ensure that the departmental strategies are aligned with the VCH strategic priorities while building capacity across the organization. Works collaboratively with local provincial and national partners to inform develop and deploy organizational strategies. The role is entrusted with the responsibility of representing VCH at provincial and national committees and organizations as aligned with this key role.
  • Oversee and coordinate the identification of meaningful overall organizational quality data and measurement in close partnership with Decision Support and Analytics ensuring they are reported and shared through reports presentations education and collaboration with VCH leadership and the Board. Partners and bridges information from other departments across the health authority to inform the overall human experience at VCH.
  • Provide overall leadership and direction to team members using effective management techniques (e.g. coaching mentoring skill and leadership development performance management) and motivates them towards the attainment of the departmental goals. Recommends changes to organizational structures to reflect evolving needs and is responsible to ensure and support an ongoing system for measuring performance.
  • Develop overall department budget to complement strategic directions within existing fiscal constraints and uses best utilization methods to thoroughly monitor and adhere to allocated budget.
  • Promote a culture that encourages a healthy work environment individual responsibly and personal commitment to continuous quality improvement and patient safety.
  • Recruit and manages assigned staff in accordance with professional standards performance expectations and current legislated/contractual obligations.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Masters Degree in a related health profession plus ten 10 years recent related experience in clinical quality and patient safety in a complex health care environment including progressive clinical practice education research project management and leadership experience.

Role Specific Expertise:

  • Demonstrates compassionate leadership effectively managing complex and sensitive conversations to enhance overall experiences and drive mutually beneficial solutions.
  • Makes informed decisions that balance service provision client care and industry regulations while considering Ministry of Health initiatives Accreditation Canada B.C. Patient Safety and Quality Council and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute.
  • Uses sound business acumen to manage fiscal resources responsibly ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial sustainability.
  • Strong systemsthinking critical analysis problemsolving and decisionmaking skills.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive expertise in experience in care theory integrating it into program strategy and direction.
  • Applies project management methodologies to design and implement effective frameworks tools and strategies that enhance healthcare services.
  • Provides expertise in developing organizational goals performance indicators and analytical tools supporting datadriven decisionmaking.
  • Identifies and analyzes industry data and research to inform health planning and drive sustainable quality improvement in clinical and administrative processes.
  • Possesses expertise in quality and utilization management applying quality improvement methodologies evidencebased patient safety practices and workload assessment strategies.
  • Facilitates collaborates and negotiates to ensure effective resolution of clinical quality and patient safety issues.
  • Understands health system structures policies and regulations leveraging expertise in health services operations external healthcare environments and policy analysis to improve system performance.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external partners fostering collaboration and enhancing services through a diversity and Indigenous lens.
  • Champions diversity equity and inclusion ensuring all engagement reflects recognition inclusion and support for equitydeserving groups.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization ensuring clarity and engagement.
