As a Medical Laboratory Technologist you will be an integral part of a collaborative team focused on delivering seamless services and programs to our clients and customers. What youll be doing:
- Perform tests without direct supervision in accordance with the established procedures outlined in the laboratory procedure manuals
- Communicate accurate results to the physician in charge or to the appropriate nursing staff documenting verbal reports
- Setup shut down and perform regular maintenance procedures as well as update the charts troubleshoot and repair analyzers
- Perform urinalysis including microscopic examination of sediment
- Conduct manual laboratory tests (e.g. pregnancy test occult blood test)
- Perform quality control on laboratory tests review/evaluate results and resolve any issues before patient samples are analyzed and results reported
- Ensure each specimen sent to the lab is properly labelled and follow up to provide coaching/training if necessary
- Confirm that samples meet the requirements for specific tests
- Perform venipunctures on patients and assist with venipuncture training
- Prepare samples for testing (both onsite and referred out) and determine which samples are referred to an outside laboratory and which reference laboratory to use
- Collect data for evaluation of new methodology
- Maintain and file daily log charts worksheet records and statistical records
- Order supplies such as analyzer reagents QC material and other consumables as needed
- Maintain monthly statistical records on quality control maintenance test numbers
- Supervise Lab Assistant students
- Operate within the established standards of the Ontario Laboratory Accreditation (OLA)
What were looking for:
- 3 years of Community College in Medical Laboratory Technology (minimum of biochemistry and hematology)
- 12 years experience in a hospital or private laboratory
- Member in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
- Current knowledge of relevant lab testing lab techniques methods procedures and analyzers
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Solid understanding of and commitment to quality assurance and quality management
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fastpaced environment
- Ability to work with minimal supervision prioritize workload and manage time effectively
