This position administers and directs the Michigan Cancer Surveillance Section. This position is responsible for managing the operation of the statewide cancer registry systems including collecting and processing of all cancers reported in Michigan. This position is also responsible for providing methodological and procedural guidance to staff and users of health statistics data directing and participating in the tabulation and analysis of health data. In particular this position is responsible for overseeing the preparation of informational releases for use in the evaluation and conduct of the diverse programs at the national state and local level. Working closely with Departmental health policy and cancer control staff directly assists in the planning and development of health care data resources and in the development and analysis of health care statistical data. This position also supports staff in the investigation of cancer clusters. This position is responsible for recruiting managing and training cancer registry staff. This position handles requests for data from the press researchers and other external customers. This position also develops Section work plans that are consistent and compliant with division departmental state and national policies and objectives.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelors degree in any major.
Experience
Four years of professional experience including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11 level or one year equivalent to the advanced 12 level.Alternate Education and Experience
Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or one year of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
Additional Requirements and Information
Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 333 S. Grand Avenue in Lansing MI. Based on operational needs and within established limits remote work and alternate or hybrid work schedule requests for this position may be considered. Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or a hybrid schedule must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.
Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense including:
- A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
- A highspeed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
- Suitable lighting furniture and utilities.
