JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: DISTRICT ELEMENTARY LITERACY COACH
JOB GOAL: To provide support and advancement of the district elementary literacy program in the areas of instructional practices curriculum coaching and assessment.
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Experienced classroom teacher with proven instructional expertise
- Reading or literacy related masters a plus
- Ability to facilitate strong collaborative relationships between and among teachers and administrators to support the improvement of instructional practices in literacy
- Ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of staff involved in literacy instruction and remediation
- Ability to plan and present at buildingbased and district level meetings
- Familiarity with current researchbased literacy programs and assessments
- Familiarity with data analysis and interpretation
- Strong organizational skills
REPORTS TO: Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a resource to classroom teachers and principals on materials and methods for English Language Arts in the areas of instructional practices curriculum and differentiation.
- Coplan and coteach lessons with classroom teachers consistent with systemwide initiatives.
- Collaborate with the administration teachers coaches and Director of ELA on the development and maintenance of the districtwide approach to reading and writing instruction.
- Collaborate with the administration and teachers on the development and maintenance of districtwide common assessments.
- Collaborate with the administration Coaches teachers and others in the development and maintenance of a program to support grade level instructional teacher leaders in the area of literacy.
- Support district elementary reading Lead Teachers in their leadership role in the elementary reading department.
- Collaborate with grade level instructional teacher leaders to plan and present literacy related topics during new teacher orientation days in August.
- Support principals and teachers in the identification of students in need of additional academic support.
- Support teachers and principals with the administration scoring and interpretation of diagnostic literacy assessments.
- Collaborates with the reading interventionist.
- Support principals and teachers during schoolbased data review and curriculum planning meetings.
- Investigate new programs for possible inclusion in the district literacy program and plan for and implement their roll out if approved.
- Coordinate the ordering of literacy related materials in collaboration with principals and the Assistant Superintendent.
- Attend monthly EDCO jobalike meetings
- Organizes and offers professional learning opportunities for educators.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
TERMS
OF EMPLOYMENT:School year plus up to 10 additional days in the summer
Arlington has a well established new teacher induction program with mentoring throughout the school year.
Salary and Benefits are consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association.
